Welcome Bags for Guests

Recommended Posts

We had 2 guests not stay at the resort and so we gave them welcome bags on the cruise on Friday night.  We rented out the Sunrider (we had the smaller boat since we had 65 people) for the Friday night before the wedding.  The boat was really clean, good food (they have a grill right on the boat), strong fun drinks, fun music and great sight seeing.  It was whale season too and so we saw a ton of whales.  Lots of good photo opportunities too.  I was going to rent a shuttle bus to transport the guests to the marina but the valet guys suggested just loading up a bunch of the van taxis.  I just told them what time we wanted to leave and they had them all waiting for us.  It was $3 per person to the marina from the Riu Palace.  I just paid one driver for everyone and asked him to pass out the $ to his fellow drivers.  After the boat cruise about half of us decided to stay downtown and went to Cabo Wabo.  The van taxis were waiting for the other people and took them back to the resort.  Tons of van taxis in the town too so we had no problem getting back.  And yes, we put a schedule of events in the welcome bags.  We also did a brunch on Sunday.  They reserved a big space for us in the main buffet place.

I am still curious is the Riu helped at all. Our wedding is at thr Riu Palace Tropical By in Negril Jamaica, and the wedding coordinator said that usually bride/groom will greet the guest when they arrive and give them the bag then... but I would much rather have it waiting in their room for them (aside from the fact that we have poeple arriving on 4 different days, thats a lot of time waiting around). She said the bell hop may be able to help us with this, so I am hoping I can wing it when I get there. I have a feeling I may be disappointed...

any past Riu brides know??

Word of warning not specific to RIU. Most hotels will put them in rooms for you at a cost, (usually $3-$4 a bag), but I have yet to hear a successful story of this happening without glitch from brides here- regardless of hotel. It always seems bags get lost,

Delivered to wrong rooms or aren't delivered til near end of trip! I orginally was ok with paying the fee, but have since changed my mind when hearing these horror stories! I now am going to hand them out at our welcome event.
