Travelling Photographer fees?

I understand if you book a photographer from the states for your destination wedding, is it customary to not only pay for flight/room, but food and drinks also? Just wondering because with Dreams you're paying for the whole thing in the price.

Hmm, I thought that the rate that the photographer set had all that stuff included? Maybe the photographers on the forum could chime in.

is the photog you're looking at giving you a flat fee for travel? i assume they'd include all of that. since Leigh stayed at Dreams, and travel was included in her package, i didn't pay any additional.

 

but if you were to stay somewhere that's not an AI, and travel isn't part of the photography package, i assume you'd get one flat fee that included everything, like lodging, flight, and incidentals (like meals, etc.)

We have hired a US photog to travel to our wedding. This is how the contract from her is written (we are staying at an AI).

 

Custom Package including the following: two photographers, airfare/accommodations to the Dominican Republic, full wedding day coverage, day- after session with bride and groom, online slideshow, online proofing, 150 4x6 prints, DVD of hi-res images from wedding day.

I guess my question is.. do most photographers just ask for a flat amount for travel or is it subject to change when they book? I wasn't sure if food/drinks were included but sounds like yes. (no problem because we're at Dreams)

 

I wasn't sure what the norm was.. they book their own travel, right?

From my limited experience/research ... they include travel and accomodations in their price ... and charge a flat fee. They usually make their own travel arrangements, though I've encouraged our photog to go through our TA so everyone is covered and accounted for in the same way.

If Dreams is an AI, you won't have to worry about extra expenses for food/drinks ... but from what I understand (and I could be wrong) you should include your photog in all wedding activities (if you are having a welcome dinner, farewell brunch, etc. they should be included as if they are a wedding guest). If you are doing something off-site for an added fee, you should pay for them if you are paying for your other guests. If it's an optional thing, then you wouldn't be responsible for their cost if they attend. Does that make sense?

We are flying a photographer out. His work is incredible and he is very reasonable. Basically, we paid for his stay (it's an AI so his food and drink is included), airfare, and transportation to and from the airport, plus an agreed upon fee for his photog. services. I do not think it's traditional to pay for their food for the entire stay, but generally you should feed them on the day of the wedding as you would if you were having a local wedding. We booked his travel for him, but some photographers like to do it on their own, and then add it to the total charge for their services.

i have different packages for DWs and domestic. my destination wedding packages include my travel costs. i book my own travel. other photographers may do it differently. theres no right or wrong way.

I quote my clients the quotes that I receive from TA or online booking source. I've had a few brides that took care of the travel arrangements, but I usually make my own.
