This is all just peachy-keen - long wedding planning

We have not booked anything for it yet, but I think we have decided to do a simple legal here (grandparents and parents only, maybe my siblings - he's an only child) in a church first. Then the DW. Then the AHR. We did think about doing the AHR and legal together, and still may, but we wanted the AHR in my hometown for ease of access for extended family... and we really do not want our legal there, or it will be impossible to keep small. So that is what we are thinking of doing for right now. Probably.

I am sure there is some kind of drama with everyone, right? Grrrrr!

Have you and your fiance sat down with your grandparents and discussed this?  Sometimes if you take the time to sit with them and talk about it and explain your desires they tend to come around with things.  Perhaps you could find a way to stream the wedding so they could still watch

I have talked to my grandmother about it. She basically raised me until I was about 12. She says she wants us to do what we want to (of course she says that), but that she is very, very sad to miss it. They are not raising a fuss about it; my parents are in speaking up for them. I can tell that my grandmother is very heartbroken about missing it, but she is trying very hard to be okay.

None of my grandparents have access to Internet or anything. They are extremely technologically-challenged. That is a good idea, though.

Have you considered a small legal wedding at home involving your grandparents then a "symbolic wedding" down south?  I keep reading about people having symbolic weddings downsouth which you have to be legally married and show your certificate before being allowed a symbollic wedding here.  Its also a cheaper package then a legal one I believe ( it is at my resort )  Then your grandparents get to see you married but you also get the DW with anyone whom can attend and say I do in paradise ..  Ive heard of a few brides that married legally at home but didnt tell any of their guests so everyone down south assumed they were just getting married at the resort :)  I hear the wedding coordinator preforms symbolic weddings :)

BTW..  Your do it yourself items are AWESOME!  Great Job!  :)

There has been a LOT of family drama on my side about a DW. I have been trying not to let it bother me. But the other day my dad called and spoke rationally but still emotionally about their concerns. Namely:

1 - I am the first in my entire family to be married, and my grandparents (we both have all 4 still) are too old to travel. I am very close with them and my grandmas are fairly heartbroken about missing it. I am planning on doing an AHR there, but apparently that is not enough.

2 - I come from a religious family; which are all extremely concerned that I am not being married in a church (I have always wanted to be married outside)

3 - the time of year - farmer family, all busy haying. Might not be able to come for that long.

I cannot do anything about 3. I am a teacher; I get summers off. That is when it will be.

BUT - even though FI and I really wanted to do everything - legal and whatnot - in the Dominican, we are thinking maybe we could get legally married here first, with just parents and grandparents. In a church.

Here is my dilemma. If we do the legal thing at home, and the DW, AND the AHR.... is that not a bit MUCH? We would keep the legal thing here simple... small church ceremony, going out for dinner to a restaurant. That is it. We really did not want to do this, but we understand how important it is to my grandparents...

I just can't help but think, then why even do a DW? Is this not a lot?

I know a lot of brides get legally married first, so... what do you think? I guess I just need my mind eased.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier!  I ended up having 3 weddings - a civil, a DW and a religious.

The civil was because we didn't want to go through the hassle of doing it legal in Mexico so we went to the courthouse with 2 friends as witnesses a few weeks before the DW.

The DW was the big wedding with all the bells and whistles.  It was small (35 people) and a lot of our family couldn't make it.  It would have been amazing for everyone we love to be there but our desire for a DW trumped that.

The religious wedding was at a chapel in our hometown where much of our families live.  (it was actually a mini DW for us because its 400 miles away lol).  We then had a reception/AHR where everyone came.  Many of the guests had been to our DW 2 months earlier but it didn't matter.  Who doesn't love a party?

So is it a little much?  Probably.  Do I regret it?  No!  We got to celebrate with everyone and it was fun.  I think there is something to be said for doing it just to please your grandparents.  It is a nice gesture if you ask me.  Of course its your life and you don't have to do anything you don't want to, but if it isn't too much of a pain in the neck to please them then why not?  It will all work out :)

Yes, I think we will now be doing a small legal church wedding at home just for our grandparents, parents, and my siblings (FI is an only child). This is the plan, anyway. We are planning on running our new plans by my parents (who are responsible for the drama portion) at Christmas. Then we will see how it goes. But we really want to do this for my grandparents, but on our terms. :)

Thanks, btw, I love DIY! I should really take pictures of more of the stuff I am working on...

I have been doing a little off and on, wedding-related, but I came across this a while ago, and wanted to post it. I LOVE this song, and the proposal is so cute. I do not like this song was played in Breaking Dawn, since I am far from a Twilight fan (I did read them, though, at least). Maybe people won't remember that by July 2013?

Anyway, I thought this was really sweet; I actually got a little teary-eyed. Thought I would pass it along!

Omg!  I love this video, it's so cute.  I totally teared up as well.

I don't think many people will remember the song by 2013...and if they do it would only be a few select twilight super fans ;-)

Alright, I just started putting together the playing cards that I will be giving to my guests. I got the cards 2 for $1 at a local Dollar Giant. I will be putting these on sticker sheets.

Here will be the front...

And here is the back...

Definitely a little cheesy (especially the back!) But that is okay.... I am definitely a little cheesy too!

So what do you think?

We hate the Twilight movies (mostly the actors), but we're doing our first dance to that song too! That is the cutest video I've ever seen, even my FI was smiling like a little girl! :-)
