Newbie & lost destination wedding expert stateside or wedding consultant at resort?

Hi,

Hoping to get some advice on whether I need a wedding expert stateside to coordinate with the wedding consultant at the resort?  I'm recently engaged, and we are planning to marry in July 2013 at the Royal Cancun.  I don't want more people involved than necessary, but if anyone has some tips or advice on whether I need the destination wedding expert, please let me know.

Many thanks!

Jenni

Congratulations and welcome to the forums! I guess it all depends on how your communications and expectations are going with the wedding coordinator at The Royal Cancun. Often, the resort WCs are very good and are able to get all your concerns addressed. For the most part, if you are not doing anything completely out of the normal, the hotel WCs do a great job and know all your options. They are however, over worked and often very slow to respond... so be patient with them.

Best of luck with all your plans... I hope this helps.

Hi Jenni,

Moments said it well. If you are looking to have a fairly basic wedding and aren't looking to 'customize' too much, the wc at the resort should be able to get everything done for you. If you are looking for something a little more unique, to work with outside vendors, etc. it may be best to hire a planner stateside. It can often be a less stressful experience going through an outside planner as their response time is much quicker and can get things done in half the time it would normally take just based on their vast experience!

Happy Planning!

Congrats and welcome!  I didn't find it necessary to have a stateside coordinator, we just used the resort one and she was good.  I will warn you though that sometimes they aren't as quick to reply as we want them to be.  Things are different in "island time"!  Good luck!
