Off seasown wedding in Turks and Caicos?

I would LOVE to get married in T&C this next spring. But it looks like we need more time to plan. SO, we were thinking of getting married next Fall. I have mixed emotions about the hurricane season. I know there's always a threat of hurricanes and bad weather but T&C gets over 300 days of sunshine a year so I feel like it may be ok?

Does anyone have any experience with a Fall wedding - maybe October or November? Any input would be appreciated!!! :)

Hi,

I have lived here in the T&C for over 15 years so maybe I can help.  September as a general rule tends to be busiest regarding hurricanes (and the hottest and most humid month of the year).   For the most part, we usually don't have lots of rain in the fall, unless some crazy weather front moves in from the US.  We do get afternoon or occasional showers but here, rain lasts 15 minutes and moves onwards and many times it can be pouring 2 miles away and clear sunny skies are all around.  Basically the rain doesn't last.   Have we had rainy weeks in the past during oct/nov? yes, but no more than any other month of the year.

I love the late october/november months here personally.  It's just cooling off (and by that I mean not icky hot, it's a nice temp) and perfect weather during that time but the water is still warm for great swimming and the water tends to still be as a general rule really calm and flat.  The winter months will bring some stronger winds and a higher chance of choppy seas.    The island itself is much quieter, with hotels generally getting ready for the "season" and airfare is also better as well.

If you're looking at Oct/Nov, I would go more towards late oct vs early and anytime in November.   We have been known to have a hurricane come through during those times but really that's rare vs September which always seems to see us boarding up for something.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the info Krys! That helps me out more than you know! ;) I have been doing a little research here and there for the last year and I've seen your photography. It's definitely on my mental list of places I want to use! I know I will have so many more questions in the future and you guys do such a good job at answering the questions people have. I know myself and all us others appreciate it! I'll be looking into November as a possible wedding month!

Hi Krys,

I'm considering September 9th as my wedding date for next year in Turks & Caicos - a very small wedding.  Would you strongly recommend against it? Is there usually a breeze if the wedding is on the beach?

Your experience and knowledge is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

September is hot and the wind gets down to not a lot.   We don't have air conditioning in our house here (it's set up for lots of breeze and fans), and September is the time of the year I always start saying maybe we should have it installed.   If you are going to get married in September, you want to do it 1-1 1/2 hours before sunset (which is perfect light for photos as well).   Any earlier will be too hot.   When we all go to the beach in September it is always after 3:30-4pm and we stay in the water until 5-6.   On the plus side the water is flat calm in September and beautiful and if you have access to getting out of the heat into air conditioned rooms it's perfect.   The water is a great temperature as well, it's our favorite time to head to the beach after school or on the weekends (but that's in a swimsuit).  Do not put your groom in a tux or something too hot (yes we have seen full tux/suits etc at this time of year and it makes for a grumpy groom).  Think lightweight!

One thing you will want to strongly consider for a September booking is hurricane insurance.   September 7-9 every year is about when our girls school starts every year and 4 out of the past 6 years we've had that delayed/changed etc because a hurricane was coming near/hitting us or just passing us by.   We haven't gotten damage but hurricanes can cause havoc on travel plans, flights, and weddings.   The first 2-3 weeks in September is the busiest time/likelihood of hurricanes in the Caribbean.  So if you are planning for a Sept 9th date, be aware and I would advise hurricane insurance if your travel company etc offers it (and advise your guests as well).

Hope that helps

Hi,

I have lived in Providenciales, TCI since 1997 and have done numerous weddings and events October - November.  I can sa, though I cannot predict the weather, that my experience has been October being a bit more windy, with some rains the first week or so.  November is warm, 87 degrees with the evenings a low of 76.  Both months are great for wedding and the resort/villa rental rates are much lower before the Thanksgiving weekend.

You can find out more information about TCI and weddings on my site www.eventsbyescape.com

Hopefully you will come and have a wedding of a lifetime, in the Beautiful by Nature Islands.

Cheers and Blessings,

Chae

Hello! Newbie to the site and it's been great looking through everyone's comments and opinions. I am thinking of Turks and Caicos for our wedding next year. We were hoping for July or maybe August. But my mom just ruled all of August out. And now July seems too fast approaching, especially for our out of town guests. S now we're also looking for maybe November? What is the weather like for both months? I'm most concerned about the rain in nov and dec. Does it rain for a bit and then clears up or is it a consistent rain all day long? I never thought picking out a wedding day can be so stressful ... Thanks for your input!

We had our wedding October 20th and it was perfect! Our guests had nothing but sunshine and we had just a few overcast/windy days on the honeymoon. I would do it again in a minute! I'd say odds are in your favor. My opinion on the 300 days of sunshine is that some of those days do have scattered showers but it seems they usually pass quickly. :)
