Marriage License - Do I need to do anything when I return to NY?

Hi

 

My fiance and I are getting legally married in the Bahamas.  Does anyone know if we need to go to City Hall or do anything special when we return to NY?

 

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Hey Kathy,

 

You have to take your marriage license and apostille to city hall to convert it to a US marriage license.  

 

are you using matthew sweeting as your officiant?  If so, he tells you exactly what you are supposed to do (and for a small fee, he'll do everything on the bahamas side for you).

That's odd, I haven't had to do anything.  I've been able to use my Bahamas marriage license for everything and no ones given me any trouble.  It can't be a state thing can it?  I mean most things I'm changing are national - social security, passport, banks, etc.

I second this. I didn't do a thing. I actually went to the town hall with license in hand and explained I got married in the Bahamas and " What do I have to do?" they said nothing, there is nothing to do. That is a marriage license and that is it. I think different countries. i.e. Mexico require some work on your end when you get back but not the Bahamas
