Gift bag items - ship to destination or pack in suitcase?

I am getting married in Aruba 4/21/12.  I am getting my ideas together for what to include in my gift bags.  Before I start purchasing anything, I'm wondering how to get all of these items to Aruba.  I feel like everything will take up A LOT of room if I try to pack it and bring it with me.  Has anyone ever had the items shipped to the hotel ahead of time and assembled the bags there?  Planning on having the bags given to the guests at check in.  Thanks : )

I am getting married in Jamaica on 4/18/12 and I heard your things could get stuck at customs!  I am packing everything! our guests are also packing things for us as well!
