Help picking a resort in Jamaica for October 2012!

Hello BDW brides,

We've been engaged for a couple of months now and have just started planning our destination wedding in Jamaica. We got engaged at the Riu Negril Clubhouse but have decided not to go back there for our wedding. While it was a great place to stay- we definitely wanted more in terms of the beach and entertainment for our wedding.

We're currently looking at the following hotels:

-  Iberostar Rose hall Suites & Beach - not sure whether there is a major difference between the two. How are the beaches at this resort?

- Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton - I've seen some wedding photography and the architecture on the inside is perfect for pictures! but the beach looks fairly small so we aren't sure.

- Riu Ocho Rios or Montego Bay: after our stay at the Riu Negril not sure if they will be the same. Also, is Ocho rios pretty far from the airport?

One other thing we were thinking of doing was holding a catamaran cruise for our guests - has anyone done this? If so which company did you use and if you dont mind - what price per person did you get it for?

Thanks,

Charlene :)

Hello Charlene87

Congrats on your engagement and on starting to plan your DW.

Reading your post put a huge smile across my face because I have been to Jamaica and LOVE it! Also- I have been to the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton. I stayed there in 2009 and it was a fantastic resort to stay in. There are tons of options in terms of food and things to do and everything I ate was really tasty. I haven't stayed at the other resorts you are considering, but I have sent people to them and I must say that your choice is going to depend completely on what you want your wedding to look like and what ammenities you want to be available for your guest's stay.

My advice would be to make a list of your top 5 MUST HAVES and figure out an amount of money that you would feel comfortable asking your guests to pay to attend. I highly recommend seeking out the assistance of a DW specialist if you are having trouble with picking a resort and planning. Also make sure you do lots of research, but don't take sites such as Tripadvisor too seriously because they are people's opinions and those people may have totally different values when it comes to travel, then you do!

Most importantly- enjoy the process and good luck!! :)
