am I the only one NOT excited to try on dresses?

Recommended Posts

Tara, you've got so much time I wouldn't even think about it now. I mean, you're thinking about it, but I certainly wouldn't go shopping yet. You can wait until at least January for your November wedding, so what's the rush?

Keep an eye out for things you like, styles, etc but don't force yourself at all. People always want to know about the dress, the dress, the dress, but it's gotta be your dress, and you'll know it when you see it!

I wouldn't worry about it at all! But if it helps, I wasn't really excited about going shopping either, I'm not a girlie girl, but I can be if I'm excited about something. And the moment I started trying them on, it was so fun! It's just an experience I've never had in my life, so it's new and fun and so different. There is something about wearing that dress that makes me smile!

So hang in there, brush off the comments, and go when you're ready. And then of course, we want pictures! msnwink.gif

YES! I didn't step foot in a store until February for my June wedding. Most people here are so dress-happy that I felt bad for not caring...lol But I didn't. I looked online at places that were easy to order from like Macys/Nordsrtoms/Neiman Marcus. They have white casual wedding dresses that are a few hundred dollars and ship the next day so I figured I'd get one of those eventually.

Then one day I went alone to the bridal shop at the persuasion of my mom (go alone-other people just want you to get the dress they would wear) and tried on 3 dresses. I liked the 3rd one and it was a wrap. It had a corset back and felt bridal. I didn't care to see #4, I liked #3 well enough, it was not expensive, and that was that. I didn't have that "This is the dress I've always dreamed of" moment, maybe because I didn't have a lot invested in finding "the one".

You wear it for a few hours and it goes away for life...plus it has nothing to do with your love for each other. My cousin told me a wedding dress is supposed to make you feel special and beautiful and that I should take my time to find the right one. Well I don't know what's wrong with her but I feel beautiful in jeans and flip flops just like you guys...lol I don't need to spend $2000 to feel special. I bet Joe is a lot like Will - I could have walked down in a $14.99 white sundress from Target and he would have been awestruck and I would have been comfortable...lol Don't trip, you'll find what you want even if you wait until the last minute.

Did I ever show you this site before? They have inexpenisive casual dresses that are cute:

Your description sounds just like me. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of having a wedding gown on, so I wanted something that looked like a dress I could just wear to any other formal event. At first I bought a dress way too casual. Felt more like club wear. I was always uncomfortable when I put it on. So I took it back. I found an off the rack dress at macy's that I feel wonderful in. I plan on wearing flip flops with it. I'll upload a pic soon once I get a better one. The only one I have is me taking my own picture in front of the mirror.

A big reason for me wanting a DW was to not have to look like a traditional bride & be the center of attention. I cried when I put on my dress before I bought it, but I think it just might have been from the relief that I didn't have to shop anymore.

Oh, & I know what you mean about sales people. I loved shopping at places like Macy's because I didn't get so much attention like you would at a bridal shop. I also went alone. I took my digital camera & took pictures of myself in the dressing room. It was nice to be able to show them to a friend and get feedback & look at them again when I got home to help me decide.

Nope, not alone. The idea of dress shopping *really* makes me want to elope. 1) I don't want to deal with any bridal associates high from sniffing commissions. and 2) I don't want the attention thing either.

I'm tempted to just buy something online, but because I wear dresses like once every couple years, I am horrible at picking something out because what I like is *never* what looks good on me. Something about one-piece outfits in general always look like shit on me.

I am with all of you. I hate when salespeople hold my hand...I want to be left alone to try things on..no pressure. I want something simple so maybe I will order online and just send it back if it doesn't fit. I may eventually have to venture into a dress shop though. Ugh. My wedding is in March...I don't even know when I should start shopping. smile41.gif

I was sorta like you. I dreaded the making appointment part. I was totally prepared to have to fight off aggressive sales people and I hate that. Unlike you I think I was born in heels. I am a jeans girl, but heels go with those jeans.

Anyway, the salons I went to all were great and no one was pushy. Since you are making an appointment you get assigned one salesperson to work with. It's not like you are surrounded. All my salespeople were awesome to work with. They really wanted me to find the perfect dress. Which I did!

My advice is to make yourself try it. Just because you aren't obsessed with finding a dress doesn't mean you won't like trying them on. This is the only chance you wil ever have to do it and you don't want to miss out on the opportunity.

I've started looking but I haven't been as excited as i thought I would be. But i think its because I've been feeling so unattractive that I was affraid I would hate everything I tried on!

the last store i went to, i took 2 BM's and we had a good time. Maybe you should take a good friend to blow through the stores.

Morgan,
I think that dress is perfect! I don't think it's ultra casual either. Once you have your make up and hair done I think it will look less casual and more bridal. Congrats on doing it alone too. It was so hard for me to choose.

Isn't it relieving to know your done?
