Oh, I know Tori...sorry for clogging up the thread with my pics!  I'm not ready for a planning thread of my own I think...but I so appreciate all the feedback.  Thefuturemrsgunn (I think that's how you spell it) also has me worried that my stuff isn't as coordinated as it could/should be.  But never you mind...you who's sewing your own convertable dresses...I am not surprised...you're keeping up with the best of them!  Anyway, it was good to see you back...we were missing you ; )

So, I had a chat with the florist across the street and she put my mind at ease about using the glasses from Pier 1.  Also, I did take a look at Michaels for those coloured vases, and they would totally work too AMJ.  Against my better judgement, I popped in to Dollarama over my lunch hour, and found turquoise glass tealights (pack of 3 for $1...they also had green, orange and purple) that will totally match...and at Michaels I found some turquoise fabric baggies that we will use on the tables as well.  Which means I think we might do all the maracas in pink?  Ohhhh, and the best was at Dollarama they had just put out packs of jolly ranchers candy...I bought a box of packages of the passion fruit and a box of packages of tropical fruit...2/$1 with 20 in a box (for the welcome bags).  They were also putting out small bottles of Franks Hot Sauce...it looked like they were $1.25 or $1.50.  AMJ, they had a whole bunch of new ribbon and trims out at the store I was at.  They had a metallic braid in your colours that was cute...I'm sure it's the same colours as your sparkly branches.  They also had silver and a gunmetal colour, which is a really difficult thing to find.

Thanks also girls for the suggestions about reception goodies for the men.  I think what we've decided to do is put out a big basket of Mexican candy and snacks (spicy peanuts, etc), which we'll purchase in Tulum (pueblo) or Playa.  That way, everyone will have a chance to try some treats that aren't available at home.

Okay so here are photos of the real starfish from Michael's and the red decorative starfish. The real ones are in a garland but I started taking them apart, not too difficult...there was a bit of hot glue on the end of each when the string was attached but I just carefully used an x-acto knife. I think I may order more though on Ebay.

The red starfish are from a company called Time 4 Crafts (CTG Brands Inc). They do have a website but I couldn't seem to find the starfish on it. I may email them and ask them if they come in any other colors. The Canadian Dollar Store where I got them at carried red and light blue ones.stafish.jpg

Tori,

Silly question, but how did you know your starfish were fake? I am pretty sure mine are real...sugar starfish. I just figured that if they stink they must be real! I know I saw some at Winners, smaller ones and wondered if they were real or not, they were mixed in with potporri.

Thats so strange because the ones I have are fake so I thought it had something to do with that!  Airing them out definitely helps... just don't want them to stink up what ever we put them in to travel with!!

ohhhh...I love the starfish on the twine...I'm wondering if you could take it apart in the middle and attach a "thank you" sign to hold up for photos...

That is a good idea! I may get a couple more and keep them together for garland. I was looking at photos of past ceremonies at my resort and if you hung the starfish garland vertically on the gazeba or chubbah?..it would look pretty..maybe three hung. I am going to order more sugar starfish on Ebay and put some on the front of the gazebo with turquoise tulle. I may also put a starfish on each chair with the turquoise chair ties.

What do you think about using fake rose petals? The hotel is charging a crazy amount for them and I was thinking of getting the fake turquoise petals to line each side of the aisle...I am making red fabric pomanders, was going to hang one on the end of each row of chairs, but now thinking it may be too much if I use chair sashes that are turquoise. Do you have any thoughts? I have looked at lots of photos but a bit frustrated on how to incorporate both of our colors, red and turquoise...

They are HUGE and not exactly a finger starfish look so that was tip #1 and they had a "made in china" sticker on them.... tip #2 LOL  I could also tell by how they feel, they are very chalky I find.

Everyone's taste is difference but I prefer simplicity and letting the setting do the talking for you.  I don't think ALL colours have to be incorporated into every aspect of the wedding.  For instance we are doing Navy and Green with a lot of white running through it (more recent addition because I like the weddingy "vibe" it gives off.  So the GMs will be wearing navy shirts, the BMs navy dresses and the stems of the calla lillies will be the green accent with them.  Most everything else will be white at the ceremony, chair covers, sheppards hooks etc.

I think the red rose petals would be a nice accent against the turquoise chair sashes and wouldnt be going overboard!!!

Thanks! I think I am getting stressed out now that I am getting ready to go back to work and we're going to B.C. for a week wednesday and I feel like I should be doing wedding stuff while we're there because work will soon be my priority.

Do you think fake /fabric flower petals will look ok? Don't want to pay the crazy price for real ones.

I think it is ridiculous they charge so much for petals... I definitely think the fake ones will look just fine! They will also hold up better! My only concern would be any wind blowing them away but that would be the case with real or fake!!!!!

Hey! So i got my Mom a Pashmina, and I found a seller on etsy who makes really cute starfish necklaces.. i think the sellers name is onemaker or something like that.. anywhere they are silver.. and sooo nice!! so i bought my mom and my FMIL one. My Dad loves pocket watches, so we got him a starfish pocket watch.. or rather a pocketwatch with a starfish charm on it lol...I was also thinking of doing the hankerchief with the poems on it.. but i found a website that has all different types of writings, and so i was thinking of just buying some  nice hankerchiefs and then typing out the lovely poems myself, and putting them in the box... if you want a copy of those poems and such lemme know i can email it to you.. there are tons!! :)  just a way to save a bit of money yet have something nice and sappy for a keep sake :)

LOL.  Maybe I should just get them as a keepsake for the moms.

Any other good ideas that you have found locally?
