I think it's BS that everything gets converted to USD! ! my photographer has a lady in Calgary who we transfer our deposit to BUT it had to be USD. .like WTF!! I'm in Canada she's in Canada....so why can't it be CDN money!!! it kinda pissed me off but what could I do

That's just odd! I hired bicoastal images (tons of great reviews here) and because she is Canadian, we can pay to her Canadian bank account and not pay an exchange rate. Her work is amazing but this also helped make the decision for us- not for the savings persee, but more for her ethics.

I'm wondering where you guys are getting the groom attire? My fiance is set on wearing a suit and even though he bought a gorgeous charcoal suit, it's wool, so I don't think it will be very caribbean friendly in the middle of August. I'm looking for a linen suit but I can't find them anywhere in Calgary (we even looked last year and nothing, everything is wool). I even thought of going to a tailor and getting it made for him but that's probably going to cost as much if not more than my dress. I also saw suits in suitopia.com and indochino but I don't know if I dare to order online. What is everyone else doing?

This is a little late but:

I feel like we went to EVERY store in Canada that sold suits and then a whole bunch in the states also.  My poor husband must have tried on 20+ suits...he hates trying on clothes. In Canada we couldn't find the right colour, and everywhere was $400+ which was out of our budget.  Prices were substantially cheaper in the US.

We ended up buying his suit at a store in the states called Jos A Bank.  They have a special line called Tropical Blend that is specially designed for hot climates.  The colour was perfect.  When we went they had a great sale and we got the suit for only $150 (yahoo!!). We had great customer service there too.

His sandals we bought at a Timberland outlet in the US for $30 and he loves them.  He is wearing them this summer all of the time and are quite stylish.  We did splurge a bit on his dress shirt - from le Chateau.  We looked everywhere for something that was a cut a bit more slim and couldn't find something that fit him well except for le Chateau.  This was on OK splurge for us as he will wear the dress shirt again.  The suit not so much.

Groomsmen attire was challenging as we were on a very tight budget, and couldn't get the two groomsmen together to even attempt shopping.  Groom and groomsmen didn't match, but groomsmen pants matched the bridesmaids dresses.  We ended up buying pants from a discount suit store in the mall, and shirts from old navy.

wedding party

Shirts were white, my dress was "diamond white".  I don't think it looked dingy.

Have you tried BananaRepublic.ca? Usually my fiance wait until they have 40% off and buy a whole bunch to get the free shipping. He just bring items that he doesn't like back to the store to get a refund.

Last time he purchased (about a month ago), he bought a linen slim suit and slim linen shirt and it fits pretty well.

@@DinaQtobe we definitely thought about going down to the states and seeing if we find something. We went shopping two weekends in a row but nothing. Banana Republic didn't have anything left at the stores at least and my fiance is so hard to shop for when it comes to suits haha, a combination of him being picky, not a big budget and the fact that he's small. The closest things we liked were a cotton suit jacket and pants from JCrew but that was coming at around $800 for both or a suit we saw at Hugo Boss, which was $1000   so no way. Also at Hugo Boss they don't let you choose the size of pants and jacket separately and for $1000 they had to basically take in his jacket from everywhere. It was too much of a risk for that much money. In the end we decided he will probably get summer dress pants and we'll match it up with a vest and a tie. Groomsmen will probably wear the same pants but suspenders rather than a vest and a tie or bow tie.

Where did you go in the states?

Oh my goodness this is harder than finding my dress!

Hey @@TinkerSofi, my fiance is 5'2 so he is tiny, but he has a broader shoulder so some slim fits didn't truly fit his shoulders. Mexx was too big on him. We also tried H&M, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, JCrew, Alfani Red, Zara, Bar III, Le Chateau, Jones New York, Kenneth Cole, all the labels in Moores, Harry Rosen, etc. We hit the jackpot with Topman at The Bay and BananaRepublic.ca (BUY IT ONLINE! The actual stores have very limited selection!).

His Topman suit is about $300. Fits perfectly except the sleeves were too long. We got it fixed for $15.

His linen pants from Banana are about $60 each. Again too long. We got it fixed for $8.

@@TinkerSofi, have you tried Tristan & America?  My fiance has a charcoal suit from there that he's completely in love with, and he wants to get his suit for the wedding there too (the same cut, just a lighter gray).

Best of luck!
