I am wondering how you guys have made out with finding suits for your men and their groomsmen. My fiancé tried on some suits this weekend (we are planning a wedding for early-ish 2014) at Mexx, etc. and it got me thinking about how others may have found this process!

I was pretty thrilled he wanted to try on stuff so early, love it! ;)

Anyways, how did you guys go about choosing your suits? I found that a lot of the regular stores (e.g. Moores, Tip Top, etc) don't have tons of light colored suits (e.g. beige/light grey) and was wondering about ordering online, etc.

Also, did you ladies have a preference for what color the groom wore? My fiancé was thinking beige/linen color but I know he may change his mind on this. I guess I just wanted to see how other people also went about discussing the whole suit idea!

The suit has been difficult for us.  I agree, Moores, TipTop, and other stores in our area have a very limited selection as far as suits go, and I was surprised at the cost - the suit cannot cost more than my dress, that doesn't seem right to me...  We also decided against linen, which limits us even more.

We went into Michigan this weekend to see if the US had more selection.  We went to countless stores, and it was very difficult to find something in his size off the rack.  We ended up choosing something from Joseph A. Bank.  It's a suit made especially for warmer climates, called "tropical blend".  My fiance really liked the material of the suit as it is very light, and it was a great colour too.  Patrick said he felt like it was something he would actually wear again.  He wasn't able to try it on in his size, we had to specially order it - means another trip to the US for us.  I really hope it fits.  Now to find a reasonably priced and slim fitting pale blue dress shirt.

This particular suit was on the top end of our price range for him.  There are no matching pants for the groomsmen, so I am not sure what we are going to do there.  My fiance suggested we find a darker shade of pants for them, with a darker blue shirt.  I have no idea if this will look okay or not, but I guess it's not that big of a deal ( - aka don't stress ).

I think it's great you are starting so early.  It will allow you to figure out sizing and then keep an eye out for sales online, etc.  My personal favourite suit was from Express - I think he looked super sexy, but he didn't love it. :(

Hi ladies, I dont know how big of a chain recently went to Bud Gowan (budgowan.com) And they had a sale on for $199 that came with two piece suit, dress shirt, tie, belt, and pocket square. (Reg. $450-$499 just for suit) we got a greyish-brown colour. We thought the light suits dont always give enough contrast in puctures (esp. Bw pics) the colour we picked matches well with whites and ivorys and compliments bright colours of bm dresses better than the tan suits in our opinion. Linen suits wrinkle really easy and seem to be very expensive...these suits seemed fairly light. We also bought groomsman dress pants from there (2 for $60 sale) in the same colour as FI suit. They are modern fit and look sharp with the guys linen white shirts. Id recommend that store as really affordable.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is going though the same thing with trying to book group packages- we get the group pricing from our TA then all our guests are expected to pay in full within a couple of weeks (before that special pricing expires). They can't put a deposit and pay on a few months. Our wedding isn't for 7 months. If we want to hold seats we can't use the discounted rates. And then all payment has to be in within 6 weeks. Any advice/suggestions-or is this the same experience everyone else is having?
Some resorts have their own booking policys but try large tour operators such as transat/nilitours - we used transat 90 day booking pre booking window of $150 person. Rest of trip is due 60 days before departure along with final name list. They were great!

Thanks Sarah , we got everything sorted...unfortunately transat and noli were not flying to our destination (which is too bad because I feel transat has the best wedding packages) we were finally able to get 30 seats held with a deposit for 60 days...

Thank you all so much for these ideas. I've copied all the store ideas etc into our "grooms attire" doc on dropbox lol! (This is how we communicate all ideas since fiance is in Fort Mac lol).

@Dina - it's funny you mentioned the aspect of the suit costing more than our dresses! My dress was 379 (plus my sis paid for it which was amazing) and I laughed as we went through the stores and saw how much he could end up paying - I joked that if his whole attire cost more than my dress I would rub it in his face forever lol!!! :)

Yeah, my FI is finding it pretty funny that his attire might cost more than my dress too.  It is making him feel pretty important, lol!

I know what you mean. We didn't have that problem, but friends of ours just celebrated their two-year anniversary, and his wedding attire cost more than hers... and they bring it up a lot! They are always giving each other a hard time about it. :)

I guess, technically, a suit can be worn again (maybe even multiple times, depending on the man and the suit), while the wedding dress is really only going to be worn once.  I just never thought they would be even close to the same price range, haha!

My husband bought his suit for the wedding at Holt, he purchased a Z Zegna, and it did cost more than my wedding dress. It looked fantastic and is definintely a quality piece of clothing and it was quite light.  We went to Moores, Tip Top, Le Chateau, pretty much everywhere we thought we could find a suit without any luck. It was a little weird to think it would cost more than my dress, but he's  been able to wear the pants since for work or for nice dinner, so it is a lot more justifiable. We also found some nice suits at Simon in West Ed a couple weeks ago, if you're located in the Edmonton area. Not sure if it was mentioned already, but J Crew might have something as well.

My hubby wore grey suit pants, a while dress shirt and a grey suit vest. His guys wore grey pants and purple dress shirts. We bought everything at Le Chateau! I don't know if they do linen stuff but for suiting they have lots! I have attached a pic of them in their stuff. 400
