We didn't actually send Save-The-Dates formally, we just sent an email around and told everyone. This is because we had over 300 invites and thought it was a waste of time and money to send them lol but we are cheap and have been engaged for over 2 years and told everyone from Day 1 that we would be getting married tropical in January of 2013.

So in our Save the Date email we said, Early 2013, in late January or early February. The Maximum price is $2000 per person. We have chosen Jamaica.

When we chose the resort we told everyone we talked to lol so most people knew about it but it wasn't formal. Then we sent out formal invitations in May. As I've mentioned on this blog earlier, I wanted to make sure that family has priority for booking in case we ran out of space. So we called family before we sent out formal invitations and told them that we would put money down on their behalf if they knew they wanted to go. We didn't tell them the resort formally but I think they were all decided to come regardless of what resort we chose.

For our invitations, we had a formal fancy one, and then included a pamphlet since we couldn't fit everything on the fancy card.

Here is our fancy card:

Jenna Kay Reist

&

Marcus William Weinkauf

Together with their parents,

Gary & Etta Reist and

Kevin & Linda Weinkauf

Would be delighted for you to attend their wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

For details of the destination wedding package

please see the included pamphlet.

Please also save the date for a dinner and dance reception

 in Edmonton when we return.

June 1, 2013

Details on this reception will follow closer to the date.

We urge you to put the cost of any wedding gift towards your Jamaican travel expenses.

To book your Jamaican trip please contact the travel agent noted in the pamphlet as soon as possible, and preferably before April 20, 2012.

And here is our pamphlet [or at least the only draft of it that I can find...]:

Hello Everyone!

Marcus & Jennaâ€s wedding trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica will be from January 18-25th, 2013. The resort we have chosen is the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach.

We've heard great things about the Iberostar resort: great food, great service, free flowing liquor, and amazing grounds.

Jamaica is known for its spectacular sprawling beaches, tropical beauty, reggae music, the ‘island spirit†of the people (…marijuana?), and the average 29 ÌŠC temperatures in January. While in Jamaica you may want to go golfing on the stunning courses in Montego Bay, go tube riding on the lazy rivers, go scuba diving in famous dive spots, visit the luminous lagoon where the water glows blue in the complete darkness, climb the Dunnâ€s River waterfalls in Ocho Rios, or let loose and visit the nude beaches which Jamaica is famous for! The Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival is in town while we are there too, which features a variety of reggae, jazz, and blues artists, and in past years has featured major artists ranging from Maroon 5 to Kenny Rogers to Gladys Knight... 2012 had Celine Dion.

The total cost of the all-inclusive vacation is $1800/person from Edmonton, which includes airfare, hotel, food, alcohol, and all taxes. The deposit is $250/ person.

The deposits are not officially due until September but it is likely that space will fill up by this time. The plane only holds 120 people and we are expecting a large group, so we urge you to put down your deposit as soon as possible.

Final Payment is due on September 23, 2012.

Please note that the taxes are subject to change, but it is unlikely to change more than $40 or so. The tour company is Sunquest, with the flight being supplied by WestJet. As Sunquest only has an allotment of half of the plane, any seats above that allotment may be subject to an additional $75 charge. We urge you to book as soon as possible so that you can avoid this extra charge.

Yeah, I think the most important thing when planning the DW for me is letting people know as early as possible the week that it will take place. This gives people enough time to think. For me, I chose to send save the dates by email as well but I used Photoshop and made a 1-sided postcard with the basic information of the week, the country. I had already started working on a wedding website by that time, so I had included the link on the email as well, and told my guests to check the website every once in awhile for updates. There are a couple of websites around that offer free wedding websites, so that is a good way to keepyour guests informed throughout the planning process. The more informed your guests are, the easier it is to have them organized.

Great wording Jenna! Ours was even more casual because we got engaged in Feb 2012 and we knew we needed to have it around xmas break due to family. Once we decided on Iberostar we had until March 28th before the taxes increased so I sent an email out to everyone. I had explained sorry for the informal message. We ended up only sending Save The Date postcards as I agree I find certain traditions waste of money. We sent it in August and by that time EVERYONE knew about Jamaica so it was a nice reminder of the actual date and to tell them info was on our website.

We are going with formal invites for our AHR, which is also June 1, 2013!

Pretty good, thanks!

I'm still deciding on final details of the day, and then just running around going to appointments. Got a dissappointingly high quote for tailoring my wedding dress :-(.  I've got a really simple dress and the quote came in at $450 bucks. I dont think that the changes I want are very difficult, just a hem (on a detail-less bottom), and take it in at the top. And I wouldn't even need to take it in at the top except they ordered a size bigger than I needed 'just to be safe'... grrr. I'm mad about that! Anyways I'm bringing my dress to get a different quote on Monday... here's hoping!

Otherwise I'm starting to fake tan, pack my OOt bags, finish centerpiece flowers, and then in the next 2 months I've got to get hair/nails/final dress fitting/ teeth whitening, waxing etc.

I'm focusing on final exams, papers, and my last week of classes though, which is a nice break from wedding stuff lol. So close to graduating! And then christmas, and then new years lol. I think my wedding will come very fast!

I got engaged in May. I didn't actually do anything until the summer. That's when I started looking about hotels etc. I knew I'd be doing a destination and told people word of mouth. My invites didn't actually go out until a week or so ago. And with that was my save the date (sort of). I didn't do a formal one but I did do an electronic save the date and called it a day. I'm cheap also. Why bother sending out more postage. I'm 5months away now so not much point.

@jreist what did you decide to do about the centrepieces? I thought of you today because I saw similar flowers to yours and they were in a silver short tin can with the table number hanging off the can. They looked great. And prob quite inexpensive and light also.

That sounds really cute I'll have to look into it! So far I'm just making the flowers, haven't decided what to put them in but if I can't find someting light and cheap then I'll just find something at the resort lol
