If you're not fussy about the look of their small store you can get a good price on a designer gown.

Having said that, I decided to check out David's Bridal in scarborough and was quite shocked at how low their prices are. Like I said before, I like a good deal, but I also like good quality. Some of their dresses are on the cheapy side BUT I did actually end up finding my dress there and LOVE IT! QUality is outstanding and fit is AMAZING! It's almost the same as the one I originally wanted but doesn't come with the detachable sleeves. I ended up getting my dress for $750. It fits even better than my original. My best friend was the one who finally convinced me to get it because she simply stated, "the dresses look almost identical...do you really wana pay $400 for sleeves?"

So definitely give Davids a chance. I don't suggest going on a weekend because it's a zoo. But if you can go during the week you get more attention, feel less stressed and can actually breathe. Good Luck!

Oh boy, you dont understand how great it is to hear that from you. I have an appointment on Dec1st for my first wedding gown shopping experience with my mom and the bridesmaids. We can only go on a weekend since my sister is in Guelph for school during the week. Hopefully, it won't be the zoo that you mentioned.

The dress I saw online that I really like is $350CAD. So we shall see how that goes.

I was in Michael's today (big shocker) and i saw that they are selling a 24/pk for $29.99.

They are currently regular price in the christmas section but starting tomorrow they have a 40% off coupon available which brings the cost down to less than $1 per candle. These are perfect for paper lanterns, paper luminary bags, tables etc. Just thought I'd share.

:-)

Which Michaels did you go to? I was at the one on Yonge/Sheppard, but I couldn't find anything nice at that store. Might have to make a trek to another one another day. I was trying to find some floating candles for my centerpieces.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll find something. The wknd experience was a bit nuts but I didn't have an appt and they just kinda fit me in where they could. So I'm sure you'll get proper attention. $350 is CRAZY!! If you don't try it you'll always wonder.

One thing I did notice is that some of the dresses I tried were a bit thin and I felt like I would be able to see through them in the sun. BUT...some of those same ones were also light and perfect for a destination wedding. So my suggestion would be to get a good slip to hide any transparency and it would be fine. For that price, you can get a high end slip and still be happy.

OH and get this...Because I was going back and forth over my dress and still contemplating going back to get the original favourite one, they brought the manager out to talk to me. She asked what would make me buy the dress today and I said, incl the alterations. Lol. (I'm ballsy, I know). Anyhow, she said no. I said you pay the tax. She said no. ANd in the end she gave me $50 off. The dress was already on sale so I was on cloud 9 after that. Never be afraid to speak up is the moral of that story. haha! :-)

Yeah, I saw a couple that I liked online, and they were all pretty cheap... under $500 I think. Which I love because it would make me feel less guilty doing the TTD session. It might also allow to buy a shorter dress for the reception so I can dance in it.

That was a pretty ballsy move, but hey! It helped you in the end so who cares?! I'm not very good at bargaining, so that might not help me. I'm hoping to find the bridesmaid dresses there too, since their prices are so cheap, so maybe they will give me a good deal to have everything purchased with them.

Oh!! Another deal for Canadian Brides!

Ikea had 50% off this weekend on all candles. 24pk/floating candles for $2.49 and some beautiful tea lights in the holder were like 49cents. I bought 56 of them. They looked easy to pack and i figure they can be used on tables at reception, and along the bar etc. They will easily fit into suitcase pockets and carry ons etc.

While I'm on the subject, I should say that I attempted to make my centrepieces and I figured out a way to do them for $6/pc. It's the submerged flower idea. I got a $2 vase from Dollarama, a silk orchid for $1.99, the candle from Ikea, and some diamondy rocks from Dollarama ($2 and the same ones at Michaels for $6 btw). If I can figure out a way to post the pic I'll show you. I'd love some input.

Oh it seems like you and I have the same idea for centerpieces and were shopping at the exact same locations for these things. I made a trip to a Dollarama today as well, and noticed the glass vases for $2. Greatest deal! Just have to figure out how to bring all of it down to Mexico. The FI keeps telling me its going to break in the suitcase since it's glass.. so encouraging, right?

If you have a hard case suitcase it will be ok. I just came back from a humanitarian trip to Zambia and had to lug a suitcase filled with things like mirrors, glass and blenders...anyhow, i used bubble wrap, clothes and packed it well. All was safe.

I'm going to stuff clothes in the vase, wrap tight with bubble wrap and use the hard case. I'll pack it tight so things don't shift. It should be fine. Or I'll bring in carryon....wrapped well. I'll give ea of my friends one or two to carry. It's cheaper to bring 2 suitcases at 50lbs then to have one overweight so just pack one suitcase of supplies and you'll be good. I'll post pic soon. I'm quite proud of them.I think they look pretty fabulous for fakes. Check out Ikea. My mistake, I bought votives in glass, not tea lights
