Help!

I'm finishing up my boarding pass invites.  I don't know what options I should put on the RSVP card.  So far I have:

Yes, save us ____ beach chairs!

Sorry, we sunburn easily!

I need a third option for people who can't commit this far in advance, but have interest in coming.  Anyone have any ideas?  Or alternate ideas for the sunburn one ... not sure about this one, got it from a template!

I think it's wonderful that you have decided on Jamaica. I agree with the previous poster that you need to have the wedding that will make you happy. We planned our Jamaican wedding a year and a half out. From the beginning, my fiance was always worried that most of his side would not come. And, in the end he invited about 80 people and 22 people are coming. I invited about the same number of people. Although 46 people are coming, we are one month away and as of now my parents and my younger siblings are not coming.

There are people coming that I didn't think would make it, and there are people who aren't coming that I thought wouldn't miss it for the world. You AND your fiance have to be 100% ok with that!

For me it has been stressful not to have my parents enthusiasm and support, and it's changed my relationship with my parents, but having the wedding my immediate family would have wanted would only have made me miserable. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing!

Hopefully, my experience is helpful in some way as you embark upon your planning. I wish you strength, peace of mind, and above all a beautiful and happy wedding/marriage!

Thank you for posting this! I am definitely in the EXACT same boat as you; no support from my parents. Thanks for reiterating that you wouldn't change a thing... that really helps to hear.

I just received my marriage certificate in the mail and I want to legalize my marriage at City Hall.

Who do I call? Costs?....any other info I might need?

Thank you. :)

Hi CdnBeatPrincess,

I spoke with city hall before I left for my wedding and they advised me that a legal marriage done in another country is legal everywhere.

There is nothing to file and nothing to pay for locally. A marriage certificate is a marriage certifcate.

The only thing you will need to do with your certificate is use it as proof of marriage to change any of your personal info... if you are assuming another name.

I feel as though I haven't been here in ages!!!  And as I look at the date...it has been a long time.

Well...I've returned a MRS....Married 4 weeks today, I'm slowly getting back into a routine.

I hope to get a planning thread going and post some photos.  Hope everyone's planning is going well, and Congrats to all the Newlyweds in the past few weeks.

Still waiting for our certificate, but wonder if it will have to be translated?  I'm pretty sure ours will be in Spanish and wonder if this will cause any problems when doing the name change.

Hi Butterfly,

We were married in Jamaica so our stuff is all in english ... but your documents should come translated as you should have already paid for that service. In order to apply for marriage certificate in whatever country you were married... everything would have been translated from engllish into spanish.. and that should have included the translation of the marriage certificate back to english.. if not.. yes you will need to have it translated so that it can be used here.

Found out some info for Ontario, not sure if it's the same for other provinces.

You can assume your married name and not legally change it. Please read link.
