Canadian Brides!!!!!!!!!

Lauren, I had the same problem, my dress bag was super thin and actually ripped. Luckily my seamstress had plenty of dress bags from brides that left them behind after their dress was cleaned. I would check with alteration places to see if they have any. Good luck!

Any advice for transporting your dress? The bag I got from David's is very thin and paper like. I'm worried about traveling like this. I haven't been able to find a better quality bag that fits the length of a gown. If anyone knows where I can get a better bag, please let me know! Thanks.

1 week tomorrow!!

Iâ€m flying with Sunwing too. Iâ€m just afraid that water or something will get on my dress and itâ€ll go through the material.

Thanks, yeemein - I tried calling a couple of places near my house and apparently they have fairly decent ones for about $10-$15. I will check them out. But then a friend just suggested that I use clear garbage bags and cover the dress just in case.

Did they allow you guys to take your hubbyâ€s outfit on board too?

Not a problem! We flew Air Transat and both me and husband were able to bring our dress/suit onboard. I was hoping the flight attendants would take my dress and place it in their closet but they didn't. I just carefully folded the dress bag and played it in the overhead compartment, same with my husband's suit.

The clear garbage bag is a good idea. Can never be too cautious.

i just put my husbands suit in with my dress and one of my MOHs dress as well. someone suggested that i go to a dry cleaner and just ask for one of their plastic bags...... i didnt bother and found no problems during transport. they have a whole bin you can put your dress in and lay flat.... i am almost 6 ft and my dress fit easily into the bin without folding or squishing. at no time was there any liquids near my dress (until i went into the waterfall that is ;))

Hi Lauren,

I just got back from my Jamaica wedding. I transported my dress and flowers in the bridal bag from Alfred Angelo.. which I think is the same one you have. I was worried about the bag being really thin and not waterproof but I had no issues at all. Just make sure you carry your dress with you at allllll times and dont let it drag on the floor. My dress was quite bulky so I "folded" the bag in half and made a small hole in the bottom to fit around the top of the hanger. This made it much more bearable as it was quite heavy and easier to hold over my shoulder.

Hope that helps :)

I just wanted to post a short review of my travel agent for any southwestern ontario/ Niagara region brides!

We used Old Port Travel in St. Catharines to plan/book our wedding for a party of 48.

She claims to be a destination wedding specialist, however I would NOT reccommend her for any bride or wedding group!

We paid her a few hundred dollar fee on top of the commission she received from our group booking. This fee was to take care of the extra work associated with our wedding group booking for both air travel and resort. We had 2 major problems during our travel that were a direct result of her failing to do her job (yes it sounds harsh but I am so frustrated with her novel length responses to me refusing to take any responsibility).

First, Transat had ZERO record of our wedding group. For some odd reason, Transat didnt have a code entered for our group that labelled us as a "wedding group". Due to this "oversight", we did not receive any of the perks we should have on the flight (pre-boarding and dedicated overhead bin area for dress/suit or our names announced during the flight). According to my travel agent, this oversight should be considered trivial since they eventually did announce it thanks to our guests! One of my guests went and asked the flight attendant to announce our names, they did halfway through the flight which was very nice!! but the moment had passed and disappointment already set in.. Keep in mind we booked this trip over a year ago, so you would think that is plenty of time to confirm things and ensure that all of our ducks were in a row.

Second, we should have received FREE pre-booked seats and all cloud nine inclusions on the flight. We were supposed to have received vouchers with our tickets to hand in at check in for our upgrades (which I just found out now via Transat). We received no such vouchers and all the travel agent said is "i sincerely apologize" along with a novel of why it wasn't her fault. This aspect of the travel is exactly what we paid her for. She also did nothing to confirm plans for our wedding at the resort. I took care of that via email directly with the resort.

Basically all she did was book us as a group and charge me a few extra hundred dollars. I don't know of any other travel agent who charges an extra fee to do a group booking. I'm really not sure what I paid her for and asked to be reimbursed due to her errors and "oversights" that made the difference of us being a "wedding group" and regular group. She continues to send me unprofessional emails going on about this and that and I really don't care to hear any of it.

If anyone lives in the Niagara area or knows anyone who is considering using Old Port Travel, please do yourselves a favour for your big day/week and book through someone else. I would have rather gone through a normal travel agent as a regular group and then taken care of the wedding details/booking all on my own, for free!

Hoping this little review will help one bride choose a better travel agent to book with. I am extremely disappointed with her service and refusal to make anything right. Still hoping and fighting with her to get something back from it but I fear it is a lost cause.

Happy planning everyone!

Hey Canadian brides - I am looking for bridesmaid dresses but am hoping to find sundresses or simple dresses that we don't have to order through bridal salons. I've checked Club Monaco, Aritzia, Banana Republic, Bebe, BCBG.... nothing so far. I'm looking for purples or greys - light in weight bc we will be in Cabo in Novemberc 2012. I'm in Vancouver so am considering heading to Seattle to Macy's or Nordstroms if I can't find anything. But before I set that in motion - I thought I'd check if anyone had seen any dresses out and about that could work. thanks!!

Hi McLecker,

I've been doing the same thing and I've hit every store around (unfortunately not seeing the colour I want), but I seem to recall seeing greys and purples...

Try RW&CO., Jacob L'Atelier, Zara, maybe even the Bay.

If I think of others or see anything, I'll let you know!
