My mother has been using this method for years... One I have certainly inherited! Definitely works the best if you can't make it to the jewelry store!!!

Like Lindy I've been using Connoisseurs precious cleaner. I got it at Rite Aid but have seen elsewhere. It's usually near nail polish remover section. So far its been working great. It's super easy! Update! So I went to my jewelers recently to get my ring cleaned and decided to ask them...it's a family owned jeweler...the Father starts telling me one thing...the son (who we purchased the ring from) was saying another thing and another son decided to chip in his two cents...All three were saying completely DIFFERENT things LOL...I guess my jeweler saw the 'pained" and 'confused' look on my face that he just said "Listen, don't worry about cleaning it...just come to me every week and I'll have it cleaned in five minutes"...hmm so I'm guessing this will be my option until I feel truly confident in other cleaning ways...b/c it is so not worth the risk of ultimately damaging my ring...

I was really concerned about this when we first got engaged, so we made a special trip to the jeweler so I could learn what to do.  I have a center emerald in my ring, so I can't use any of the ultrasonic cleaners or anything like that.  My jeweler made similar recommendations as others and said to use a little bit of Mr. Clean and warm water and let the ring soak.  Then take an old tooth brush and stick the bristles into the setting.  He did tell me that I shouldn't scrub the ring like my teeth because over time it will loosen and start to damage the prongs.  My ring is sparkly like new when I am done cleaning...  I get the warm fuzzy feeling all over again...

 

PS.. I was really scared about using Mr. Clean and thought it would be so abrasive, but he assured me it is safe to use.

Ask them to check the settings while you're there, you don't want to lose a stone in the sand!

My sister is  a Jeweler and she told me the best home remedies for cleaning your ring are windex if you are on the go.

 

If you have a silver or gold ring you can put some tin foil in a bowl with warm water and add baking soda to it. the chemical reaction will remove any tarnish from the silver or gold. (I do not know if that works for platinum or any other metals, so I advice not doing that because you never know what it can do to other metals)

I've never heard of using mr clean...that's a great idea...

I use just regular dish soap, and hot water. I will let it soak for a while if I have time, then use a soft makeup brush to get into all the nooks and crannies....and rinse with hot water. It comes out amazing every time! If I am in a hurry, I just run the tap (with the drain plug in!!!) with hot water, put a little dish soap on the brush, scrub, rinse, and wear! Takes 30 seconds, and comes out great! The makeup brush is so soft I can't see it doing any damage, and dish soap is gentle as well

I also use dish soap and a soft brush (baby tooth brush) and it always sparkles like mad when I am done. I hadn't heard of Mr Clean, I might have to try that!
