Has anyone had/attended a wedding at Tabacon?  I am getting married in August and would like ideas on ceremony location and just reviews on the overall wedding experience there.  I have not found any information on my own.

I don't/haven't, but I am going to Costa Rica July 29th for my wedding at a small hotel on the pacific coast called Iguanazul. We are going to the Tabacon for our honeymoon on July 31st. I heard wonderful things about it from various people who have been there, but nothing specifically about weddings. I am sure it will be amazingly beautiful & you will have the experience of a lifetime. Best of luck!!!

I am having my wedding there for sure, and then we are traveling to the Pacific Coast for 4 days as our honeymoon (vice-versa from you!).  I looked into the Iguanazul myself, but we decided on Punta Islita.  I hope your wedding is a success and hope to hear about your experience at Tabacon.  Thanks for replying, it is great to hear from someone else with a similar wedding plan!

The Tabacon is pretty much in the middle of a rain forest. It is a fabulous place. The hot water from the volcano meets with the cold water from the sea, combine and flow into the resort creating a fog effect, which is gorgeous. It is very humid due to the heat fromt he water. It's a beautiful place and def pricey. Two cheeseburgers and two cocktails cost us around $50 bucks! They add tax on everything and it's pretty high. Make sure you do the couples massage... It was AMAZING!! I believe we payed approximately $300-350 for the massage but it was so worth it. You lay side by side, outside, in the middle of the rain forest, the water flowing through. You hear the birds chirping and soft music playing. Very relaxing for the mind and body. When done, you go into another room where you have a private hot tub, a tray of fruit and some champagne. Ahhh.... makes me want to go back just for the massage. LOL Anyway...While there, I never saw any weddings take place. I'm sure it would turn out great. Also, don't be afraid to venture out into town, it's very safe. Stop by any of the local restaurants to taste authentic costa rican dishes. Very delicious food and for a bargain!! Good Luck and Happy Planning :)

We considered Tabacon for our wedding but it turned into a larger affair than I had anticipated so we are having the ceremony at Villa Caletas and Honeymooning at Tabacon. My Fiance was an exchange student when he was in college and lived just outside of San Jose and has raved about Arenal, LaFortuna and Tabacon since day one! I am really excited about going. I have read a lot of reviews and would suggest researching alternative dining options if you are watching your spending during your stay. Hotels in Costa Rica tend to charge what you would expect an upscale hotel to charge for food, I'm talking $18 for a burger...not to mention sales tax is 13%!  But if you head into town you are likely to find places to dine that are a little less pricey. Unfortunately I haven't attended a wedding here so I can't give you any advice, however I would suggest to you to check out TripAdvisor.com, that's the site I have been researching most often for information about the areas we plan to visit, whats nearby, etc. I found this comment about a wedding in the comments section for Tabacon:

“The most relaxing wedding experience.â€
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2011

"I went with my 6 member family ( 20,18,10,4,47 and 60 years old) to my niece wedding at Tabacon this past January. The experience was very relaxing, all of us enjoyed every minute, the setting was just perfect, the ceremony was at sunset, the food was the best, the atmosphere was very friendly, the people at the Hotel and Spa were very nice. I definitively recomend Tabacon as a wedding setting if you intend to marry in a very unique way."

Wish I could give you more feedback, I hope you have a great time-Congrats!
