For brides/guests who have already stayed here, what did you think of the beach/seaweed? The only thing holding me back from choosing this resort is the seaweed. My Fiancé is very concerned about it, as are other family members I've mentioned it to because we're from the east coast and love swimming in the ocean! I can deal with some seaweed on shore, I know they try to clean it up, but how is the actual water? Is it all over you when trying to swim? We're total beach people, don't care about pools so this is important - but it's hard to turn down this resort just over that one aspect when everything else sounds so perfect! So confused! 

There is some seaweed in the water.  A machine comes around and picks up the seaweed off of the beach but there is some in the water.  You can still swim in the water.  If you are used to swimming in the ocean in Cuba, Punta Cana or even Playacar or Tulum in RM you will be disappointed with the swimming at Now Sapphire.

The seaweed can also change according to weather patterns, time of year, etc. I know it's been worse than usual in the area recently.

Hmmm, thanks for the heads-up. I've only been to Cuba and Punta Cana before, so this is a bit concerning. I definitely have some thinking to do now.

I've never been to Cancun, but I hear it's supposed to have better beaches than RM.

Also wondering, what did they give you for the "complimentary room upgrade" included in the Eternity or Divine Package? We want an oceanfront view, but I don't want to spend the money booking it if that's what they are going to upgrade us to for free anyway! It also says this is "based on availability" did anyone NOT receive a room upgrade because of this, if so, did they give you anything to make up for it?

Thanks for your response. Have you actually seen it set up? Wondering if they set up normal dinner tables, just like at the other terrace locations? May I ask why you did not choose the pool area?

We just spent the money and got the room we wanted because it was something we wanted to make sure that they had and they get booked up quick.

Anywhere in Playa Del Carmen or Playacar, or on Maroma beach or near Akumal.

  All areas where you can swim directly off the beach with great sand, little seaweed!!!

 

We were engaged at a resort in Playacar (not recommended for a wedding) and had our honeymoon at El Dorado Maroma.  Both had fantastic ocean swimming.  We went to Mexico this February and stayed at the El Cid and couldn't swim in the ocean due to the rocks and seaweed.  My husband was so disappointed!

I've stayed at 2 resorts in the Mayakoba area of the RM, also a resort in Tulum and one near Puerto Aventuras. Their beaches all seemed fine to me. Now, I am not a beach person. I prefer pools. But since I'm not a beach person, I would not go in the water if it was "icky". I had no issues with any of these. 

 

I was just back in the area at the beginning of April, again in the Mayakoba area, and the beach was terrible! I would not touch that water with a ten foot pole. Although the conditions did improve over the week. I do think, to some extent, it's luck of the draw. Mother nature doesn't always cooperate! I've seen loads of posts on Trip Advisor with people complaining about the seaweed lately, at all sorts of different resorts on the RM. I think it's unusually bad right now.

 

That said, I've not been to DR or Cuba to compare. The prettiest beaches I've seen in the Caribbean were in Curacao.

Quick Question for all past brides

 

Did anyone have any issues at customs with taking decorations into Mexico.  I just want to make sure I am covering my basis.  I have two suit cases for table linens, charger plates and napkins as well as flameless candles.

 

We leave in about 7 days.

What do you guys think of this as my rsvp? I think we are going to go with the surf and turf and the chicken from divine menu( whatever the more expensive one is). I didn't want to put the entire description of the meal so I just put steak or chicken. The only thing is, if ppl are allergic or don't eat seafood I put a line for them to let me know. I was going to put another option that says vegetarian. Does anyone know what the alternative would be for a guest ? Or let's say they ate chicken or steak but not seafood .. Would they sub the seafood for something else? Any suggestions or what did you do?? Thanks!!

I recently did a menu tasting at Now Sapphire. I'm not sure how the resort would handle the no seafood request - I would ask your WC. But it would be very easy for them to serve the surf and turf as "turf only" if you have guests with seafood issues. The chicken is stuffed with seafood, so I don't see an easy substitution there.

 

We also wanted these dishes and I had concerns about the seafood (we have at least one guest who is allergic). But after doing the tasting, we actually preferred the beef bordelaise over the surf & turf, so problem solved.

 

Also I think the wording on the RSVP card works well!
