bringing a dog to Playa del Carmen/ Riviera Maya

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever brought a dog to Playa del Carmen (for a wedding or vacation)?  I read a trip report or two by people who brought their dogs, and stayed at hotels that allowed dogs (on Tripadvisor or something like that), but they didn't elaborate on the details of that experience.

Some hotels do allow dogs, but have regulations such as prohibiting the dog to be left alone in the room...  I was wondering what people on the forum have to say about hotels that allow dogs.

In addition, I was wondering if anyone knows whether taxi's and airport transportation services allow us to bring dogs (mine is really really small - only 5 pounds - and she will be in an enclosed doggie carrying bag).

Also, can anyone let us know where in Playa and the Riviera Maya we can bring dogs?  For example, I heard that we can bring dogs to the beach in Tulum... And I saw a video on Youtube where an American lady who lives in Playa brings her dog with her to many places, including the beach (not sure where though).  I was wondering if any restaurants (probly the outdoor ones) allow dogs...

Please please share what you know regarding this issue.  We have a wedding coming up in September, and the dog will be attending and taking part...

Thanks

Hola BooBoo,

I've been living here in Playa del Carmen with my baby girls Peanut & Maya!  I walk them almost everyday around Playacar and its a great area to walk your dog. Right in Playa del Carmen there are lots of dogs... some good, some bad, lots loose. You need to be careful when walking a small dog as things can happen. Im not trying to scare you... just be careful.

Most restaurants will allow dogs to stay with you at your feet. Taxis will often let you have your dog with you... there are so many cabs so Im sure a small dog will get picked up. Dogs are not allowed on the beaches anywhere.. all tho that doesn't stop people from bringing them, plus the street dogs find their way there. If you bring your dog to a public beach that is patrolled by the Touristica police.. its just a matter of time before they find you and ask you to remove your dog. Not a big deal.

If you do find yourself going out for a long day... you can drop your pup off at the Dog Holiday (http://www.dogholiday.com.mx/index.asp). I take my pups there when I have to do a wedding shoot. They love it there and the day cost is very cheap! Its around $12/$13 bucks for the day for a small dog. Drop off between 6am and 10am... pickup between 4pm and 7pm. Robert and Marion will take the best care of your baby and she will have doggie dreams for days! haha
