Need Advice on Marriage process for destination weddings in Mexico..

I faint with needles also! That's the only reason I am not having a legal wedding in Mexico.

We will get married just before we go to Mexico...probably something completely cheesy in Vegas. I think if we get married before then I will feel married after our Mexico ceremony. I don't want to have the ceremony and feel like we still have to do more to get married.

I got legally married in Mexico as well, and like Sarah have had no trouble having my Mexican wedding certificate recognized here. I also have to say, the needle in Mexico was the easiest and painless needle experience I ever had. My veins are really hard to find and I always end up totally bruised (they usually have to dig around, not pleasant) but in Mexico he got it right away and you could hardly see where the needle went in - no bruising at all!

Quick question- For those of you who have had your weddings in Mexico, whats the "easiest"/popular way to handle the marriage process, since U.S. doesnt legally recognize a marriage in Mexico. Do most of you just get married beforehand in U.S./locally to bypass all the blood tests and tedious process/requirements of Mexico? QUOTE]

 

There is a lot of confusion about the legality of a wedding abroad but let me asure you that if you legally marry in Mexico, the marriage is legally recognized in the US,

 

My husband and I were legally married in Mexico. The blood test was painless and performed in our WC's office at the resort. We returned home with 4 copies of our license. I had little to no problem changing my name. It costs a bit more (about $200 US when alll the fees were said and done). But it was worth it for us to have a Mexican marriage certificate as a very special souvenier of our Mexican wedding day.

What a great question.

FI and I are planning on having a legal wedding in Mexico as well. We only want to go through it once! We are a bit bummed about having to go out there 2-3 days early for the blood work, because since we are going to cabo on our timeshare, and have to stay Saturday-Saturday, our wedding will be on a Tuesday or Wednesday, but oh well, all of our guests are also going on timeshares so the middle of the week should be fine!

Great advice! Is anyone getting married (legal or otherwise) at the Grand Marival resort in Nuevo Vallarta? I'm in the planning stages for our beach ceremony February, 2009 and would appreciate *any* advice on planning from a distance (we live in Canada) and tips on working with the resort wedding coordinator. All opinions welcome!
