Getting married in 2013 - Mexico and have no clue where to start!!

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Amanda,

My fiance Jason and I are wanting to get married in mexico in 2013. Now the only problem is we have never been outside Canada. Does anyone know if any pointers these are the things I am really confused and dont know what to do about

  • We just want a ceremony and we are getting our marriage license in canada before we go. Now saying that do we still need the blood work, and all the requirements to get married in mexico???
  • Also we want it to be affordable for ourselves and our guests, we want to do an all inclusive resort that offers wedding ceremonies. Do you have any suggestions??
  • Does anyone recommend a all inclusive resorts that kids are aloud to come??, I would like my son to be a ring barrier and he will be 4 at in 2013.

Thank you so much for your time, I just dont travel at all and I thought it would be nice to have a small beach wedding.

Hey Amanda, first off congratulations on your engagement and deciding to have a destination wedding.  There is a lot of information on this forum that can answer almost any question that you could think of.  To help save you some time I can answer some of your questions here.  If you are having an official wedding back in Canada the ceremony here is just artificial.  You don't need any blood work and you don't have to hire a priest.  Most of the time someone for the resort will preform the ceremony for you.  And you just sign a simple certificate that you can take with you.

Weddings are a very big industry here in the Riviera Maya.  I think it would be hard pressed to find a resort that didnt have the ability to host a wedding.  A page you should check out before you start is http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/wiki/how-to-pick-a-resort-for-a-destination-wedding .

As well, almost all of the resorts allow children.  There are a few adults only resorts here in the Mayan but most you will be able to bring your son too.

Good luck with your planning and feel free to drop us a line any time if you want more help.

Hi Amanda,

I too am getting married in 2013 in Mexico.  I'm actually here as we speak (checking email and such while fiance naps...lol)  We looked at the Palace Resorts but it was rather pricey for our guests (about $1600pp for a week from Boston).  We have decided on The Gran Caribe Real and after this site visit couldn't be happier with our choice.  My son is 8 so having a kids club is important.  They have a nice kids club/pool with plenty of activities.  Next door is The Royal which is a newer luxury resort by Real resort.  Anyone who stays at The Royal also has access to the Gran Caribe which we liked because it gives our guests the option of the GRC for a nice but more budget friendly resort ($900-1000pp for a week from Boston) or the Royal if they are looking for a more upscale resort.  There is a beautiful chapel, gazebos or beach locations.  They also have multiple wedding packages as well as add ons.  After a lot of research and visiting the hotels and doing a food tasting we are really happy with our choice.  Of course everyone is looking for a different experience for their wedding and this is just my opinion.  I did research on this site and also trip advisor.  I went to Expedia and looked at resorts that were in the range I felt comfortable asking my guests to pay, looked at them on trip advisor and researched them on here.

Good luck and congrats!

Emily

Congratulations on your engagement.  to start if you are getting married in Canada then you are looking to have a "symbolic ceremony"  which would be performed the same way as "real ceremony' only that its not valid. What you would be signing that day would be just a "piece of paper" to make it look like the real thing.  I am actually having a symbolic wedding in June 2012 at Dreams Riviera Cancun (www.dreamsresorts.com) average about 750-1000 per person, very reasonable, family and kid friendly.  Great resort.  I stayed at this resort 2x before and knew from the moment I stepped off the taxi that I wanted to get married there.  absolutely breathtaking, check out the forum from this resort on this site you'll be convinced just as I was. May i also suggest you contact a travel agent and let him/her do all your traveling arrangements.  Mine is amazing, she's my go to gal and she's been dealing with all the rsvp's and even serving as my contact person back and forth with the resorts wedding coordinator.  Well best wishes and happy planning.  FYI let this site be your complete wedding guide.

Hi Chula :)  My fiance and I are getting married in May 2012, and right now, our first choice is Dreams Riviera Cancun...would you, by chance, be willing to share the name of your travel agent for booking information?  Also, I'd love any other tips you have...I'm just starting to plan and I'm a little overwhelmed by all the "extras" that the Dreams resorts seem to want to charge.  Do you mind me asking how big your wedding is?  I'm just worried that the costs are going to get out of hand.  Anyhow, my name is Katie and my email is [email protected] if you'd like to chat and compare notes!
