To registry or not to registry??

Recommended Posts

We were hesitant about it too but people started asking us about gifts (especially the ones who weren't going to make it) so we decided to do one. I really don't want people to feel obligated though so I am telling people please don't feel like you have to get us something.

Yes!  Have a registry.  People who can't go do want to do something to celebrate this special occasion and have you know they're thinking of you.  I spread the word at least to my closest girlfriends not to stress about a gift and if that can be one way they cut down on cost then I was ALL for it!  Some brides go crazy keeping lists and tracking down who didn't give them a gift, I think thats just nuts...at least where a destination wedding is involved.  Guests pay a ton to fly down, you pay a ton to feed and entertain them, its a good exchange.  Gifts are just an extra bonus, but not necessary.

Canadiangirl,

I love how you have stated this.  I think the light hearted feel will relax some people on the issue!  I might have to borrow your words!

This is what we are doing....we have made a wedding website witch has "additional information on the couple" in which case this is where we stated (that if gifts were to be given , that the couple is registered in just such a case lol so below you will see the stores in which Leigh dragged Mike to kicking and screaming all the way)....

I figured if it was a little more light hearted, they wouldn't feel pressured to do anything...but this way they had the info if needed...plus who wants a tea set?!!!! this way if gifts are given at least you know you want them, hope this helped

I recently attending a wedding, which was not destination and because they were combining two households and had everything they simply stated this on their website and in a comical way stated that if people wanted to they were registered at their local bank.  I don't think anyone thought any less or more of it.

I know I personally have too much stuff as it is!  oh but a Hot tub would be nice!cheesy.gif

We are in the same boat - didn't want to have a registry since everyone is shelling out so much to be there, but we have had had a lot of gift inquiries so we decided to do 2 versions - 1 is a traditional registry and the other is something I thought of...a DIY registry where I give guests some wedding projects and the responsibility of transporting them to JA.

I am asking them to keep it under wraps so the other guests are still surprised, but we'll see how it ends up.  Also, we are planning to have frames that say  "Many Thanks to  ______ for This Amazing Contribution" or "Lovingly Created by ______".  It will take a huge load off my shoulders plus I love the idea of family and friends putting their energy into creating our wedding.
