Trying to write your new last name

Recommended Posts

I like my last name because if you ever google me I'm the only one.... If you google my first name with my FI last name there are tons of people....maybe that's a good thing...I don't know. I'm not sure if I will take his name or keep mine and his...or just keep my own.

while we are on the subject of signing names..? This might be a dumb question but..when signing your marriage certificate what do you sign? Your current name? Or future name?

lol I'm constantly initialing things at work (nurse) and my current initials flow soooo easily... the new ones are going to be so tough, I'm actually going to have to take my pen off the paper between letters!! lol... I'll have to find a way to make it work.

I am also a nurse and feel my initials now run nice together...  gotta come up with 2 ways to sign my name all over! hehe!

I'll be changing my middle name to my current last name. I never much cared for my middle name anyway! BUT, my fiance and I work for the same company and, while we do totally different jobs and it is a huge company, we occasionally work with the same people. I think I'll keep my maiden name at work to keep my professional identity my own. I don't want to be "Damion's wife" at work...I want to be me!

That said, if he had a hideous last name I would not even consider taking it :) His is simple, 2-syllables and phonetic. Fortunately he does not care either way. He thinks it is my name and I should do whatever I want.

Haha when you sign the marriage certificate you sign your maiden name, because you aren't officially a Mrs. until after the certificate is signed.

Lots of nurses in here! Yea I've tried to come up with a signature and have yet to find one that flows like my current one.

I love my future last name.  Young.  Perfect.  Mrs. Young.  I can deal with that.  My maiden name is full of vowels and I have to spell it for people very s..l..o..w..l..y..  They still jump ahead of me or don't listen, and spell it wrong.  God forbid if anyone tries to pronounce it.  My signature currently is just my initials with extra flair. I think I can transition pretty easily, though I'll probably tweak it for a bit.  All my trial runs have felt pretty good, though inconsistent.

It's so weird actually doing it. I got my new bank card I had to sign so I sat at the desk signing on paper before I signed it hahaha. So odd remembering to use my new initials.

EVERYONE has asked me if I was going to change my last name. Since we have a child together, I wanted to have the same last name as my fiance and our daughter. I'm going to be so sad when I change my last name because I really do love my last name. My (maiden) name is 13 letters long and it's not a common last name. I'm going from 13 letters to 4 letters, lol.

For me it was an easy decision. I didn't grow up with my father and we don't have a great relationship. I kept his last name (my mom gave me the option to change it when I was a pre-teen) because I always wanted to remember my heritage (half Chinese/half Japanese …yup not a common mix)  and to remind myself that he was still a part of me regardless of how much he cared to be a father. I always knew that if I got married that I would happily change my last name, I knew I wouldn't feel like I needed that reminder anymore, it had served its purpose.

My MIL wasn't expecting me to change my name and was shocked when I told her. Once I explained to her why, she realized that I really wanted to do it. She got all teary eyed told me how happy that made her.

I also think it is kinda fun to have a name that might throw people off. People won't expect Mrs. Clement to be an Asian woman LOL! ;)
