Ooo!  What kind of machine does this kind of lettering? (I would also like to monogram my entire apartment...ha!)

 You would use a diecutting machine - there are several at different price points.  I bought this one:

Then you buy craft vinyl.  I got mine here:

Unless you want to use the font that comes with the machine, you either have to buy additional font cartridges or buy the Sure Cuts A Lot software (which will let you use almost any font):

I have been seeing them for about $4 or so at places like Marshals, Ross, and TJ Maxx.

No - you can even run it through the dishwasher!  If you want to remove it, you can, but it will leave a sticky residue you can wash off with a scrubbie sponge.
