Whose name goes where?

i am finishing up our save the date's and have a couple of etiquette questions:

 

Who's name goes first if the couple is married?

Who's name goes first if the couple is unmarried?

 

i think it is man first if married, female first if unmarried but i can't remember!

 

oh, and then what about married couples who have different last names?

I didn't really follow tradition with my STD's.. I put who I was better friends with first! Haha.

I think - if the couple is married, you never separate the man from his first and last name. For example:

 

Jane and John Doe.

 

But if the couple isn't married you put the girl first but with her last name.

 

Jane Smith and John Doe.

that link is SUPER helpful! I printed out a page like that when addressing mine so I could refer to it if I blanked on anything! :-)

 

As far as unmarried couples go...I believe it's acutally supposed to be in alphabetical order by their last names? Like Ms Jones and Mr Smith etc.
