Is anyone having a wedding registry? How did you word it on the invite?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I'm curious to hear if any of you are doing a wedding registry for gifts.  Originally I was against the idea...I didn't want my guests to feel like they had to buy us a gift as well as pay to come to our wedding.  Anyway it was brought up in conversation with my future father in-law (lol sorry I don't really know the abbreviations yet) and he thinks we should still have something.  His point was that it could be for people that can't make it to the wedding, but still want to contribute.  I see what he's saying, I'm just don't want to look greedy.  Does anyone have any advice?  If you had a registry how did you word it on the invite?

Thanks in advance!

I'm so excited. I can't wait to register. In NY when we have our bridal shower we get gifts from the registry. For our wedding we usually give money. I'm not sure how the wording is going to be. Since it is a small wedding hopefully we can tell everyone to not bring gifts away. If they'd like to give us a wedding gift they can give it to us when we return but we will not be askig for gifts. A dw is an expense and don't want for people to feel pressured. Their presence is the biggest gift I can ask for in sharing in our special day :)

We will have registries, but we are not mentioning them on our STD's or Formal Invites.  Instead, we have included our wedding website on our STD's (you could even put this on your Formal Invites - depending on the formality). Our website contains a link to our registries.

We weren't originally going to do registries, but like TropicLover mentioned - it was also brought to our attention that many people won't be able to make it, but will at least want to give you a gift in their absence.  So, I wouldn't push the registry onto your guests by adding an insert, directly mentioning you have a registry, or expect any gifts, but I would definitely have one on your website for them to be able to go through if that is what they want to do :)

I too  was having the same thoughts about registering someplace, that was until the family decided to plan a big shower for me and my work friends also want to do a bridal shower. I don't want to appear greedy, but I also don't need 5 pairs of oven mitts and a dozen tea towels.I think we're going to register at Bed Bath & Beyond for some reasonably priced items (sheets, towels, baking pans etc) My FI made a good point last week, he told me that people are paying to come to our wedding, but they also are getting a vacation out it, so don't feel guilty about registering. I think he's right, but I'm  not registering for big ticket items, even though I totally want the kitchen aid stand mixer!!

We did not include our registry in our STD or formal invites.  We did include the wedding website since there is a lot of information that could not be put in invite.  Our website also has our registry on there.  We did not include any wording.  Just a tab for registry, that way if they want to give us anything they can.
