Any other 2013 Brides??

No worries! I'm the same way!

We're getting married July, 2013. Cannot even book until May at the earliest. BUT here is my timeline for STD, etc...:

STD: As soon as we book (about 14 months early). I would do this between a year and 18 months in advance. Some people need a LONG time to book off work, but you know your guests. Mine are made and saved. Just about ready to go! (We're doing boarding passes)

Invitations: Looking to do these maybe 6-8 months in advance (message in a bottle invites). We want to hand-deliver as many as possible, so it may take a while!

Before-you-go brochures: These are also done and saved on my computer. These will go out about 6 weeks in advance.

Arrival Information: They will get these when they arrive (or maybe at the airport); they are passport-style.

Plus, I will be sending out invites to our AHR. Probably about the same time the brochures go out.

 

Hope this helps. I do not think there is a specific rule as to when to send things out, this is just what I figured out. Some people send "thanks for booking" notes. I might do that too.... have not decided yet.

Congrats!!  My FI and I are getting married on May 4, 2013.  We just ordered our STDs and plan to send them out mid/late March (gives people a lot of time).  The first deposit for the hotel rooms are due November 1, 2012, so we are sending out invites around September 1, 2012.   We are going to have welcome packets for everyone when they arrive around May 1, 2013.  You can see more info about our planning on our wedding website (http://CourtneyMara.com/Wedding) or on our planning thread (see link below).  Hope this helps!!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I am getting married February 9 2013 at Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta Mexico! I am SOO excited! I can't wait to get married and for the vacay! lol I have my resort and photographer booked, Yay! I am reading some of these posts and starting to feel like I am behind! eek!

 I was wondering when are you ladies looking into florists, makeup/hair, other details for the wedding?

Congrats!!  Our resort has packages with a floral company and I was planning to have my hair done at the resort's salon (I haven't decided yet if I want to pay the $70 for make up or do it myself).   Most everything the resort offers - photography (although we are outsourcing), videography (we will use the resort), flowers (we are simple so we are just using the resort's florist), officiant (the resort offers one but we found one online that we are excited about), and other decorations (e.g., lanterns) we will bring.

We are going to get my bouquet and FI's bout with our wedding package. I bought parasols to take down too, for my bm and moh. I am also making shell bouts for the bestman and dads, and wrist corsages for the moms and bm and moh.

I am going to get my sister to do my makeup. I am pretty laid back about that, but she is still going to practice ahead of time on me.

I will be using the resort's hair stylist I think. I haven't heard amazing things, but I hate my hair and do not want to fight with it on the day.

I picked a photographer, but cannot book until I book the wedding itself, and cannot do that for another 3 months. Sigh. So hopefully he is still around then. There is a photography/videography package I have my eye on. But there are some photos included in our resort package too.

Just spend some time looking around, deciding what you want, and prioritizing. 

 

I am super indecisive, yet am finding this aspect of planning pretty easy. Probably because I spend so much time looking at stuff online to see what I like!

Wow! Everyone is on the ball and getting things going. I have yet to do my STD's. Was planning on working on those next weekend when I have some time off. I was thinking about doing a passport as a STD, but love the boarding passes idea as well. I have yet to take any engagement pictures though.

 

Have any of you looked into working with travel agents on packages? When can we start doing that since flights arent typically available until about a year in advance...

I have talked to a travel agent, but the only prices you can see now are for 2012.  I think 2013 becomes available around November/December.  The TA i spoke with said the deals are 1 free room every 21 booked or you can get a discount based on how many book.  Is this what anyone else has heard?  Seems weak to me.  

 

I am going to start working on a boarding pass for STD, and work into a passport for the formal.  When can I start to send this out for a May 2013 wedding.  Also, since it destination wedding, what do you all think about getting married on a Thursday?  Is that too weird?  I am thinking Thursday so I can relax for the rest of the weekend and not be a nervous wreak!

omgosh this will probably sound awful but I still have to send out my STD... I was aiming to have them sent out the begining of feb...  nowmy goal is to send them by the end of march. I've had such a hard time getting together all the addresses and people our fams want to invite. My fam is out of town for a month so here I am hunting down their friends to get their address lol. Luckily we are only inviting family and a few family friends so they all pretty much know about it already.

 

So you ladies are already starting to buy things you want for the wedding? My family told me to wait and that I was rushing things in the begining, phew now I dont feel so bad.   I wanted to get personalized parasols and a personalized aisle runner I know I need to do that a few months ahead of time so maybe that would be good to get out of the way ..omgosh the more I read the more anxiety I am having lol!  ... I guess I should start ordering some of the things I know I want and get to investigating some florists and hairstylists.

I think having the wedding on a thursday would be a great idea! then your guests would have the weekend to enjoy at your destination if they chose to stay! plus they often give discounts for week day weddings!

 

I chose to arrive thursday, get married saturday, and stay the entire next week. Our resort let us have the discounted price for the entire next week too and the upgraded suite so I was very happy.  I wanted to get there as close to my wedding day as possible, I did not want to be harassing the hotel staff and worrying about silly details. I want to think I WONT be that girl...but ya never know lol

 

honestly I think that is kind of a weak quote... maybe contact other resorts and see what they offer, then bring the other quotes back to them and be like can you do better then that?

 

Depending on if you are only inviting family or other friends and relatives I think giving them as much heads up as possible is always best. I think maybe March of this year you could send out the save the dates.

I am an April 2013 bride so I hope to have my STD's out by end of April at the latest!  I will then send my invites in the late fall...
