Hi ladies!

Any other February 2013 brides? I'm new to this forum!

I'm planning my February 2013 wedding in the Mayan Riviera and am both excited and stressed about the amount there is to do, even though it's a DW! Any advice on what I  should be focussing on at this point of the planning process?

Thanks so much, and I looking forward to chatting with you all! elefant.gif

I would suggest finding a resort, booking that resort, and then decide on photographer and/or videographer. I think that would be the thing that books up quickest.

At least, that is my first focus! Then fun stuff!, like STD, bridal party, etc....

It all depends on what you want to do!

Hey ladies! Newbie here....Planning an April 2013 destination to RIviera Maya. We have our travel agent getting us resort info, but haven't really done much else. Congrats tkuzma- looks like we will have a lot of planning in common! Questions- when you book the wedding at the resort, how much deposit or what money down do they require? How early did you send you STD? I feel so lost!! Also, I am assuming we need to pick a resort before a photographer?? I have heard some resorts dont allow outside photographers off their list or whatever?THanks ladies!! Happy planning:)

Hello soonCB!!  Congrats and Welcome!  You should check out the TA here on the site.  They are very good at getting back to you, and super helpful!

Shay4966- I love your idea about pre-RSVPing on the webisite. I may do that too:)

CourtandMatt- We are using a wedding planner, but I wonder if a good TA would provide assistance with planning off resort wedding. Do you know? I am getting a little frustrated with our planner right now. Instead of off resort wedding locations she is giving me other locations that are at more high class boutique resorts which is not what I want.

What kind of experiences are everyone else having with TAs?

Congrats to all the other new bride to bes that have joined :)

Better to have a lot of time than not enough. It's nice to be able to find what you really like rather than rushing and picking something you'll regret later. Plus you will get your choice with vendors because not many people book that far in advance!

tkuzma- We are getting married in Jamaica in mid- February! Still working in the exact day. We getting the group rates booked this week :). Apparantly Sunquest just released their promotions for weddings next year. We were able to get a fairly decent rate, although it is still more than I wanted to spend. Has anyone else dealt with Sunquest and got any promotions?

Slarso13- I plan on doing an off resort wedding, so I can't give you any advice on that; however, the other brides on this website are VERY helpful. You should send you save the dates out asap so that people can have enough time to plan. We sent ours out 11 months in advance and did not put the exact wedding date as we do not have anything confirmed yet. We have set up a wedding website to keep everyone updated so that when they are ready to book they can find the information needed. We will be sending out the invitations in August with the ceremony and reception information as well as acomodation information. (hmm . . . that just made me think, by August hopefully all our guests will hae put down a deposit. Wonder if I should still include accomodation stuff. What do you guys' think?)

On a note for both of you guys' there is a forum that lists a time line for DW. It looks very helpful. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/46632/timeline-to-do-list-from-the-guide-to-destination-weddings

Sorry everyone for the multiple posts. I thought the system was not working oops.gif

Thanks for the advice Peach! I feel like I'm on track right now- I have a crazy job and a long-distance FI (although he tries to be super helpful), so I try to squeeze in a lot of wedding-related tasks in my infrequent days off. Resort is chosen, deposit is down with the TA, STDs are out and just finished email the photographer to book him.

Slarso, where are you from? When I fist decided to have a DW, I headed to Flight Center as I've always gotten the best rates for travelling with them and great service, and just my luck, their TA's that coordinate their DW brides for all of Western Canada are based in Edmonton, where I currently live.  After getting quotes for resorts I sas interested in and my TA recommended, we had 30 days from the date of quote issue to put down a $700 deposit with Flight Center ($350 for each for bride and groom) on the resort wanted- (no rush; the resort I ended up choosing, I had to get requoted 3 times as a result of my indecision). Then a $200 deposit was due to the resort WC department to secure wedding date and time.

My STDs went out early this week (after I worked like a madwoman to get our website ready!).  Given the nature of my job and strict vacation policies, and that my friends are in the same profession, I needed to get them out asap.

I'd recommend securing your resort and wedding date/time before searching for a photographer.  Some resorts, like mine, have preferred photographers, but will let you bring in an outside one, albeit for an exorbitant fee ($800 in my case- beyond ridiculous, I know, but I did not like the preferred vendors, and pictures are extremely important to me, and it worked out to be not too much more in the end anyways).

Good luck and keep in touch!

Hey soonCB, where in MB are you? My fiance is currently living in Brandon.

That is good to know that the 2013 pricing and promotions are out.  I put down a deposit with our TA (who is booking our trip through Sunquest) before this info was out, but I was told that once the 2013 rates were out, I could get a one-time price adjustment as well as any promotions would be honoured as well. Thanks for the tip! msnparty.gif
