Hello Ladies : Congratulations  for your upcoming wedding  , I just wanted to share with everyone interested in a non resort location for wedding in Playa del Carmen  or  Riviera  Maya  , I have visited  Sol y Luna  Villa  and I highly recommend that, they have their chef there and I am sure  you will enjoy the privacy  and intimacy of the Villa .

I also went  to Blue  Venado  and if you are looking for Totally private  Beach wedding this would be the option for you , It is only 15 miuntes from Playa and their staff is uper friendly and very good  food!!

Please if you ever need any advice  in hotels  or  non resot venues feel free to ask me..

Congratulations again!!!

Sandy

chrisdior - my original date was going to be March 27, 2013 (3.27.13 - i just really liked the oddity of the dates ... weird, i know, but i had no idea how to pick a date when this all first happened and our "anniversary" date currently is Sept 27, so i thought we'd have our wedding on the 6 month anniversary ... )   so now i'm thinking May 17, 2013 .. going to stick with the "odd" dates .. cool.gif

i think may is cheaper than april, at least in mexico. and the opposite here in the states!

CourtandMatt - i must agree!  now that i have come to terms with changing the date (after all, it is just a date and we can celebrate our anniversary whenever we want).

Elissae - Good idea to skip the cost of Save the Dates!  My FI and I didn't want to do Save the Dates, we found it to be a cost that was not necessary especially since we are sending invites so far in advance, but his mom wanted them and so she paid for them, which was very welcome.

soonCB - CONGRATS and welcome to the site!!  I am also getting married in Jamaica so yay to Jamaica!   With regard to wedding planners - my TA acts as a wedding planner.  Have you found a TA yet because you should make sure your TA does destination weddings

mrsrepp - Thank goodness you found that out now.  It is a national holiday with two days off so many people head to the beach and prices will go up!  May is a great time!!

I would send them out as soon as you confirm the date with the resort. Although you may not be able to book anything the resort should still be able to hold your wedding slot. At the same time you can send the dates out and always send invitations out with the confirmed date later. I sent mines out early so people can pre RSVP and I knew how many things I needed like luggage tags, OOT bags, etc. After I narrow down to the definitely not coming people I will send invitations to those who are planning on attending.

I am having fun with all of the DIY stuff and planning I have even used an on-line website that I shared here to play with flower designs.  We have told people about the date change and are now wondering when we should send the save the dates.  We have to wait until some resort stuff is finalized but after that we think maybe we should send them by May.

We had originally picked the Barcelo Palace for our wedding but the response time and help I am getting is lackluster to put it nicely. I love the resort and people rave about it but the packages are super expensive especially compared to other resorts.  The other one we are looking at is the Dreams Riviera Cancun, it looks beautiful and correspondence to my questions is fantastic. The weeding packages are great too, my only problem is that I don't know anyone who has stayed there like I do with Barcelo.

We have never traveled before and are super excited, but it's hard because we want to wedding to be beautiful and memorable for the right reasons. It's also hard that we are getting lots of options form family about everything, a lot of them prefer the pacific side cause they have been there and say it's cheaper, they also say the Caribbean side is "overrated".  We love the idea of the Caribbean ocean but it's hard when we are getting flack.

Sorry for the long rant but I really need some advice.

Thanks for your help I have been super stressed about it lately.

Hey Shay! I was just wondering... I thought you were suppose to send invations out to every person who recieved a save the date even if you suspect that they are not coming? I am brand new to all this and the first of any of my friends to go through this process so I could be wrong! Any input is appreciated!

Hi Shannonmarie!

Traditionally you would do that but since a destination wedding is typically non-traditional, you can do what's best for you. I plan on sending my invitees luggage tags and other forms of gifts to get them ready and I don't want to spend money where I don't have to spend. My STD's are going equipped with everything they need to know about the resort and my travel agent. I plan to have my invitations confirming everything that was said in the STD's and things that will be happening throughout the week and such. I also want to start early on my OOT bags, having them pre RSVP will allow for me to get an idea how much of each item I need to get, even if I get two or three extra. Its better then sending invites to 100 guest and getting 50 extra and only 50 attend. I'm giving my guest much time to RSVP (July 1st)  via my website, even if they are on the fence about it they can choose yes and later change the RSVP to no via the website. I hope this helps.

I should add that if a person does not RSVP I will be sending that person an invitation, but if someone goes on the site and checks a no then there is no reason to send an invite.

CourtandMatt- Thanks for the warm Welcome. Is your TA able to help you deal with vendors and such or is it strictly regarding the resort and travel? We are spending quite a bit of money working with the wedding planner, but so far it has been worth it escpecially since we are doing the ceremony and  reception off resort? Is everone doing resort weddings? If not, how did you choose where to go off resort?

Shay4966- What a great idea to have people RSVP before hand! I wish I would have thought about that. We have talked to most of the people before hand and determined who will most likely come. We plan on only having approximately 20 people at our wedding.
