ROR Brides (Riu Ocho Rios)

That is so exciting. It will come fast! Mine is in January and once sept comes it will be so crazy!!! Sept -Our wedding social October- hopefully have everything orderd and arrived November- Bachlorette party December- xmas Jan- leave! summer has gone by so fast, and I want Jan to come even faster, but at the same time I am wanting it to slow down because before I know it it will be over !!! :(

I'm leaving from Newfoundland March 2014. There are no direct flights from here when we're going (March 3rd) but selloffvacations.com travel agent told me there are flights after March 18th direct from st. john's to the Riu. You're not going to get anything with air canada because its true they don't go to the riu. its only the charter flights that go and once a week.

We are leaving the day before from st. john's, booking a flight to halifax through air canada or westjet for that, and leaving at 6am the next day from halifax direct. Our quote from halifax is 1720pp/900 per child and every 11th person is free. That's from selloffvacations.com- our travel agent is carol gonzalez. It was the cheapest I found by a few hundred dollars. If you go in off season though i'm sure it would be cheaper!

Hi everyone,

 

I am posting this on behalf of one of my lovely brides who is getting settled back in after her wedding at Riu Ocho Rios:

As for the resort itself, my major problem was the disconnect that happened when we arrived in Ocho Rios a number of reservations were "lost" by the front desk, because they are SO OUTDATED and use a paper system rubber banding the paperwork of guests reservation information. It was really bizarre. 
 
The reservation I made for my brother family of 4, was not received. I'm not sure what happened between us and them, but when my brother arrived at midnight on Thursday, the reservation was not there, so they made him pay for the night, and then when we checked back in the morning they still were not able to refund the money. Finally around 6/7pm the next day when they wanted to kick my brother and his family out of the room they cleared it up and refunded the money. Apparently this "disconnect" between the supplier and their front desk reservation happens all the time, a pain in the ass if you ask me. 
 
The room I was in had a great view, and they decided to upgrade me to a "bridal suite" but that room did not have AC, so that was definitely interesting. In a country that was 95 degrees and a humidity level that was unbearable. Even after complaining and they came, he pretty much told me he couldn't fix it and brought in a fan for me. -_-
I'm sure you can imagine how pissed I was. 
 
Upon arriving Keisha confirmed that my dinner was at 9:30pm, but I had to have her change it to 6:30, which she offered to and said No problem. She told me she would change it to Mamee Bay, so we all arrived there at 6:30 only to find out that we had no reservation, apparently she told me Mammee Bay but meant to say the Buffet, so I had 70 guests standing there waiting for seating which did not exist. That was a bit frustrating.
 
That day it rained for 10 minutes which it does EVERYDAY in Jamaica and they were going to cancel my bonfire, which I was livid, the sand wasn't even that wet. But after complaining up a storm the bonfire was but back on. 
 
In all, the wedding was not smooth sailing, I spent at least 2 - 3 hours at the front desk everyday fixing something that went wrong, or was promised and did not happen, eventually things were fixed, but I expected a more stress free environment which for me did not happen.  I could also be crazy type A sociopath with crazy standards and perhaps a destination wedding was NOT the best choice for me :D In all it all worked out in the end, the guests had no idea, what I went through and was shielded by the crazy things I had to go through, so I guess I can say that was a success.

Oh and the food was great for an all inclusive!

Ahh!!! I am scared now. I would be so furious by their service if this would have happened to me!!!! I hope they step their game up or something because that is really ridiculous.

So far, my only issues with the resort, was they messed up my time for my wedding. Whcih caused a big inconvience for me. And the fact that they didnt offer us anything for their screw up kinda annoyed us. We were going to stay at the RIU negril for the second week, but because of the mess on the time, we decided to go elsewhere in negril for the 2nd week

I am getting married in November and have 30 guests joining us. Two of my guests have just been told they can no longer have the upgraded room they have booked with their young daughter as they are turning that side of the hotel into adult only from November! Does this also include all the amenities and restaurants on that side of the hotel?

Hey I was wondering what you guys did for the transportation between the airport and the resort. I believe the bride and groom are covered by the travel agency and what not but what about the guests? I haven't really thought of that until now. Any suggestions on what I could do for my guests or what I could suggest my guests to do? Thank you!!

I have been looking at some of the transport company's I want to be able to pay a company to transport my guest since their paying to come and the hotel doesn't offer it. My plan is the make it fix in the budget... I have a friend who is from Jamaica and his cousin owns a tour company but I don't remember the name right this min will post/ text it later for you and others
