ROR Brides (Riu Ocho Rios)

Katman, I have not gotten anywhere really.  My only saving grace is that I now have an email from Keisha where she messed up on her typing and actually told me that there will not be a charge.  Not sure how far that will get me though.  I did just get an email from her yesterday.  I emailed her to ask if I could ship her some of our wedding stuff so we wouldn't have to drag it all in luggage on the plane but she said two other brides tried that and both brides got married w/o their things b/c customs kept all their stuff.  Sad Face.  But she does respond to me, albeit not right away, but usually within three or four days.

Hello I'm a newbie! This is an amazing thread - well done ladies! I just got engaged and I'm looking into this hotel for my wedding in April 2014 ....... So excited! Im 27, teacher from scotland! The photos above are absolutely stunning! Loving the brides dress and lanterns :) ....... However the poor responses from WC are putting me off! Eeeek! Although I think (at the mo) I'm just going to chill out and take it as I find it (ha ha I'm almost doubting myself as I write this)! 😂 Nice to meet you all and congrats! Thanks for your informative posts! X

HELLO ALL!

I am having my wedding at the RIU Ocho Rios June 2013. I wanted to know if anyone had any advice or anything that I should expect for the days leading up to the big day! I am going to have 40+ guests and would appreciate any advice that I can get.  The WC has been almost impossible to get with and it has me worried. I finally received the price list but I wanted to know if any of the additional services was worth it?!?

The RIU does provide the cake table.  We sat at the head of the long table with our guests but we did not pay for any extras and used the reception dinner included in the "free" package.

I've said it many times ladies, everything will go off without a hitch.  Please do not stress out so much.  Jamaican's run on a different time schedule than we do and are much more laid back.  I came to realize that and decided to just go with it because I should not be so stressed out while getting married on a beach.  And it worked out perfectly.  We were the only wedding of the day at the beach gazebo so there was no rush at all.

I do agree there are quite a few arguments regarding costs that I do not agree with but I didn't pay for anything extra. But with that many guests, it does put you in a predicament.

The place is pretty enough.  I only took a few table decorations for dinner to scatter on the table and our sand ceremony items.  They provided candles for the reception dinner table and it was beautiful.  Everything else was theirs and it was gorgeous.

Have fun and enjoy it.  Your guests will too!

Hello Brides,

I was married at ROR in 2011 and I still get updates form this site.  I had to chime in on this one.  First off, they have NO right to force anyone to get a private room that has over 40 people.  NOWHERE on the website does it say that.  They can't just make up rules.  they get you to book and then spring rules on you.  talk to the sales department, (the people you book with before getting hooked up with keisha) and threaten to take your business elsewhere. Get it in writing when they retract their statements and BRING ALL DOCUMENTS WITH YOU.   They have to honor what is stated on the website.  Don't let them bully you into paying more, cause they will try.

The free package says semi private dinner for 10 guests, I paid for 35 she waived the extra 10.50 pp for extra cake and sparkling wine & toast.  (because it wasn't stated in my original paperwork) ;)

I was not forced into a private dinner.  as long as 80% of my guests stayed at the hotel I was told that 40+ was fine.  my original number was 40 in fact.

good luck, give em hell!

PS: I'm glad they didn't charge me for additional cake it was the standard size anyway.

Soon2BNJersey, I took your advice and I emailed the sales team at the corporate office.  I told them that I feel as though it's fraudulent for them to lore in brides with an "all inclusive" gimmick just to slam them with an extra $4,000 rule after the contract was signed and deposit paid; and that no where on the website nor my contract does it say anything about having to pay an extra $67 per person plus an additional $600 rental fee simply because I'm bringing the resort more money by having more guests.

So hopefully they will respond soon.  I'll update if they do.

Good for you,

Unfortunately I had to do the same before I got results.  They didn't wanna lost 30+ guests over a disagreement.  Good luck and get it ALL in writing!
