Huge to-do when you get home!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to give you a headsup on the passports.  Once you  get your legal documents from your DW and change your name, make sure you immediately go through the process of getting your new passports!  It is free (minus the new picture you need to take).  If you wait, you must purchase a whole new passport at full price.  FYI- This must be done within a year of the issue of your passport.  Here is the link to get the forms you need.  http://travel.state.gov/passport/correcting/ChangeName/ChangeName_851.html

The info is on the website, but just thought I'd put it here, too, for quick reference :)

The passport name change is free only in cases where you have a relatively new passport (has to be less than 1 year when you request the name change). If you've had your passport longer than 1 year (like myself), you don't have to pay the full new passport price, but just the regular renewal price (as long as it's still a valid passport in your possession and not lost/stolen).
