Is it my responsibility?

Recommended Posts

Helllp!

I am very concerned about the financial expense that our guests will face to come to our wedding in PV?

The bridesmaids have:

Dresses

Hotel

Flights...etc.

And the list goes on...

What should we definitely pay for in PV?

Are responsible for excursions? Meals? etc...?

What things are you footing the bill for - for your guests?

Although I'm eloping, I'll chime in:)  I think that guests who chose to attend your DW automatically assume they'll be footing the bill for their travels.  After all, it's not like you're asking them to come to your wedding on the North Polemsnwink.gif.  They are getting some-what of a vacation too.

We were initially planning a DW in Playa del Carmen and had discussed paying for a welcome party, reception, and 1 excursion for our guests.  That being said, you certainly don't HAVE to pay for anything for them.  I don't think you're required to pay for their meals (other than the reception meal) b/c you wouldn't pay for their meals the days up to and after your wedding if you had it at home.

People have a choice to attend or not, or whether they can afford the trip.  You'll have to decide with your FI what you can afford, who (if any) people you will help pay to get there, and then be prepared for some guests you'd like to have there, just flat out not be able to afford the trip.

Good luck!

We are paying for the dresses for our bridesmaids and the suits for our groomsmen (we are purchasing suits rather than renting because we will ask our bridal party to wear their wedding clothes to our AHR as well). Aside from that we will pay for the reception an entertainment. We are throwing around the idea of paying for airport transfers as well, but I'm sure we will determine that at a later date depending on flight schedules etc.

Always happy to see another DW with "just the two of us" :)

We chose an all-inclusive resort to elimate the additional expense of meals/drinks for our guests (or for us having to paying for them!), so the meals part I can't speak to. As for what we are paying for: attire and gifts for bridal party, wedding reception dinner and entertainment (of course), and welcome bags and/or favors. So in other words -- not much! While I would love to be able to take everyone out on an excursion, or even pay full travel for bridal party, that's just not feasible for us. If anything, I may organize an excusion for those interested and offer to pay a portion of the bridal party or parents or siblings, but that's it. We are also doing a welcome dinner/meet-and-greet, but chose to do it in the buffet at the resort, so no added costs there.

I think there is no requirement for you to pay for anything for anyone - guests or bridal party! That said, we decided to cover the attire for our bridal party since they are special to us and doing the honor of standing up with us. Although even if we were doing a wedding at home, I would pay for that stuff. Anyways, I agree with what greysgirl said.. people understand they are attending a destination wedding and there are obviously costs involved in that. I don't think anyone would expect you to cover or pay for anything other than the wedding itself. Anything you can do on top of that will just be a big bonus!

We are staying at an AI resort so we don't have to worry about the food. The only thing we are paying for are transportation,  land and boat,  on the day of the wedding. I have one MOH and I will be paying for her dress too.

I don't think our guests expected for us to pay anything else. Good luck in your planning!

  • 3 months later...

I have also been wondering about this. Mostly I am concerned with getting the best deals I can for all our guests so hopefully it is not too big a strain for them. As my FI is always telling me, the wedding is about what we want and not making everyone else happy. Does anyone have ideas for small things to buy for our guests to help them out? (besides the reception and so forth?)
