Cheaper versus exemplary location?

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I are still trying to decide on a location for our destination wedding.  I am torn between choosing a more luxurious resort in a more luxurious area (at a more luxurious price) and choosing a more affordable location so that more of our friends can come.  We REALLY want as many friends and as much family as possible to come to the wedding, but are afraid that there will be many folks that won't be able to come anyway! Regardless of how low the price seems in comparison to the others.  How did you ladies choose your sites bearing in mind the financial commitment required from your guest? HELP!

My fiance and I decided to separate the decision about the wedding location from the actual hotel accommodations. We picked a hotel that we really loved for the wedding ceremony/reception and will be staying there too. We are encouraging our guests to stay with us, but we are also offering alternative affordable accommodations. It's your wedding and you should pick a location that will make you and your fiance happy.

I think that is perfect advice!

I completely agree with the previous responses.  We had the same dilemma and ended up choosing the location that we loved, even though it was more expensive.  Some of our guests stayed at other hotels nearby and some stayed at our hotel.  It wasn't a problem.  Also, just because you choose a cheaper hotel, that doesn't mean that more people will come.  Those on a tighter budget will not decide to come just because the rooms are $50 or even $100 less per night.

I agree 100%!!  And plus, the people that really want to be there will be there no matter what

Unfortunately, people are going to complain. If it's too expensive, they'll complain that it's too expensive. If it's less expensive and therefore quality is lower, they're going to complain about the food, or the cleanliness or the service they didn't get, etc.

Do it the way YOU want and the people who really want to be there will be there.

I agree with Hazels, i ran into this problem myself, people complained about the resort being too cheap and "older" so I switched to a newer more expensive resort, they complained it was too pricey.  People will bitch no matter what.  do exactly what YOU want and dont let others tell you where to have it.......I had so many people say if i picked a nicer resort, they would come, and guess what??  Those ppl arent coming cuz its too expensive but are the same ppl who didnt want the "older" resort.  You just cant make everyone happy.  Def. pick the one you love.

As far as honeymoon, we are staying at our resort for 7 days.  I envy the brides who can do that and STILL go on a honeymoon too......so another big decision for us was our location WAS our honeymoon too.

good luck.......
