HELP! What is the correct way to address inner and outer wedding invitation envelopes?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any advice on the correct way to address inner and outer wedding invitation envelopes.  Is it proper to use clear labels on the outer envelope or must they be handwritten to make them more personal.  My daughter's wedding is in May in Mexico and we have to rush out the invitations so we were wanting to know if most people are handwritting the envelopes or printing them with clear stickers.  If you're handwritting them, do you print or do script lettering.

Thanks for your help!

We printed labels on our computer as it makes it easier to read and takes way less time.  I dont think there is a proper way to do it, I think whatever feels right to you, and if you are in a rush to get them out whatever will be quicker for you.

I've always heard: formal names and address on the outside envelope (Mr. & Mrs. John Doe) and informal names on the inner envelope (John & Mary), all handwritten, all in script, with "And guest" only included on the inner envelope.

But really, do what feels right and looks best with the style of invitation. Our invites are less formal, so we're throwing traditional addressing etiquette to the wind. We're doing envelope wraps, printed by computer and no inner envelope (just a boarding pass ticket jacket). Shame on us LOL
