Anyone going the fake cake route?

Recommended Posts

I guess we're all different Kristy :)

I hope no one took offense since I mentioned I'm from NY/NJ and I care about how cakes look.... lol, My cake cutting ceremony will be pretty special to me, unfortunately they have no real cake I like :(

I tried researching to see if there were any local bakeries and there is really none in the Bavaro area, I tried asking the workers at the resort, the wedding coordinator, searching online I was going no where, they all said it would atleast be 2 hours or more to get a good bakery, their are more in the capital but...again I'm not really crazy about spending money on a real cake if it's not going to look great and I already have a table full of desert for my guests, thanks for trying to think of other options though...

Is there a local baker you could use outside of your resort?  That'd be a lot less work.

If transporting a fake cake is what you want...more POWER to you! :) All of us have different visions of our "perfect wedding" and what is important to us. There is nothing wrong with this being your choice and i think you should be proud that you came up with an alternative plan.

Best of luck!

:) Np! I cant help but disagree with a lot of the ladies :( (sorry ladies!) if the guests want cake they can eat the deserts from the sweet table or get a chocolate bar out of the fridge in the room LOL I dont want to be rude here and sure i want my guests to be happy but i think with everything else going on if the guests really get that upset about cake there is a problem LOL the guest are down south, all you can drink, on the beach, having fun and probably by cake time a little drnk anyway! So ultimately its your day Miss and if you want cake THEN GET CAKE! :) everyone has their own "must have" list and you should put all stops on everything else to make sure that your "must have" list is fulfilled and you have no regrets on your one special day!

Out of curiosity, why is the cake cutting part of the reception so important to you?  I don't even know if we have pictures of it, although I'm sure we do. :

Oh yeah, and everyone ate the cake at our wedding! ;) Although I'm not sure everyone was eyeballing it the entire reception either, so I'm sure a dessert would have been just fine.

Our families are big on attention to detail, our spanish customs always involve in the celebration of the cake cutting portion of the reception. It will be just as special as the first dance... and I will definitely have pictures to capture the moment.

I don't mean to be rude here but I don't understand why I'm getting asked all these questions??? Like "what will I tell my guest when they ask for teal cake?" Am I bugging here?? lol

When I say that NY/NJ people like beautiful cakes or that most weddings I been to the cake goes to waste, I've never directed any of my opinions to anyone specific (I'm talking about the people I know or what I've experienced) so for ladies on this thread to answer back at me like I was directing it towards them is off completely.

I asked if any brides are going the fake cake route? this is going way off

When I "technically" asked what do you ladies think, I meant to any ladies that were considering the fake cake route.... I should be more specific next time around, thanks for clearing that up for me and I thank you for your kind words Ann, I'm sure your "why even bother" comment was meant with the best intentions :), again thanks for letting me know!

I actually like BDW and I'm here to connect with brides and share ideas so I'll just keep it moving....

huh, everyone was keeping it pretty respectful until then.  and yes, my "why even bother" was a legit. question (there was no intent, good or bad).  just like you might wonder why i didn't want a wedding party, or why i didn't want my wedding at a resort, or why i was willing to spend $$ to fly in a photog when there were plenty in PV, etc.  i honestly do wonder why one would 1) bother with a cake they don't intend to eat and 2) go to lots of trouble (and $) to get it to their site.  i am pretty sure i am not the only one with that question.  you've explained that it's the photo of the cake you're after, so there's the answer.

if you don't want differing opinions and/or questions on your choices i suggest you don't post them asking what we think.
