Do we really have to go to Mexico to legalize our wedding????

We are a french couple, and we decided to get married with our small family in the riviera maya in may 2012, I found a wedding planner agency which seem to be great : SIXSENS. Do you know them?

They made me a great offer with really reasonable price on a very calm and beautiful beach away from big resorts...

They however pointed a little problem with the legalization of weddings... It seems we have to go to Mexico in order to do the transcription in the french consulate... I really don't want to do that... They are trying to see if it can be done in Cancun, but they are not sure...

How does it work for you to legalize your wedding?

You know that you can get married by the court in your country and then travel to Mexico to have your wedding. That way you dont have to deal with any of the hassesls of the legalization of your weddig if its a hassel for you.

 

Many couples are doing that.  Just get your marriage license where you live and get married ithere leagaly.  When you get to Mexico you can have your spiritual ceremony and your reception how ever you want to have it. with a pastor, rabi or Shaman or a  Catholic prist. Thats a way to get around it.

But we don't believe in any religion, so we can't do a religious ceremony...

And it will lose its meaning if it is not legal, right?

That 's why I don't know what to do...

Is the legalization hard to get for US and canadian citizens?

This is exactly my idea! I had no idea people did that.   Was telling my SO earlier that this would probably save us a whole lot of hassle. 

 

So if we get married legally in our country, what do we ask for there?   We're not religious so looking for a sort of justice of peace or someone to perform a ceremony that would feel like a union. 

Do you know if resorts will do a private elopement for two people only, without having guests and everything or do they feel it's not worth it to them if you don't bring the business of guests..etc.?

I hope you find what you're looking for.   I'm from Toronto Canada and it's easy to get married here, you just buy the certificate, fill it out and present legal ID documents, then you book a session with the justice of peace if you're not religious and they perform it for about $250 after you meet with them and decide how and what you want them to say.   

It's easier than that even in some places, each province and city is a little bit different.

If your not religious you can have a Mayan Ceremony it's a Spiritual Ceremony.  Its really nic. e  You can also simply have a vow renewal.some hotels offer simple wedding vowl renewl  packages.Look into it.

Oh that sounds beautiful, also the vow renewal is an idea! 

Thank you so much.   When I checked with travel sights there seems to be nothing past october, it's nuts. Before this I thought I wouldn't find a photographer but now I don't know if I'll find an actual location, yikes! 

There must be some glitch as even though it's a very private elopement I have to find a photographer first to let me know of the location so I can start booking or I'm looking at next year all together.

We were married February 3rd in Playa del Carmen and it could not have been easier!  All we needed was our passports & tourist cards (and those of our wedding party).  Nothing had to be translated there.  The WC filled out the marriage license form and if there was a cost for this it must have been included in our package.  We had blood tests done on the resort for $100 USD each and that was it.  We received our marriage certificate the day after the ceremony (we had a civil one) and found someone in Ottawa to translate it the day after we returned home.  We have now been home for less than 3 weeks and I already have almost everything changed over to my new name.  A co-worker got married in a church here in Ottawa and it took her months to get her paper work back from the government!
