What is proper etiquette Save the Dates/Invitation when having hometown reception

Recommended Posts

I am planning on having a March 2012 DW in Mexico and I want to get my 'Save the Dates' out a year in advance.  I am also planning to have a hometown reception when I return from my DW for all of the guests that could not make the trip.  So here's the question...is it rude to only send Save the Dates to a certain group of people and then send an invitation to the rest of the people for my hometown reception?  I do not want to be rude, but what if those only invited to the hometown reception get offended that I did not invite them to Mexico??  HELP!  sad.gif

We are not inviting everyone to Mexico that we are inviting to the party back at home.  We are using my fiance's huge family as the reason why we can't invite everyone to the DW.  One thing we did was to make sure circles of friends were either all invited or all not invited to the DW.

We will send save the dates and invitations to the people selected for the DW.  Then we will send out a separate postcard invitation for our at home party (note the party, not reception so we don't feel the need for official invites) to everyone - those that did and didn't get the DW invitation.

We are doing the same thing - DW (55 ppl invited) and AHR (215 ppl invited) after.  We sent STDs to the ppl we are inviting to the DW a year in advance with info for our website on it where it lets them know that we are having an AHR - this way people who can't afford the DW will know they can still celebrate with us.  We will then send out invites to them in a few months for the DW

Then, we will be sending out normal invitations to everyone for the AHR - we're actually looking around on sites for them now!  If you are looking for traditional invites, it's not a bad idea to start looking now since sites will actually send out free samples on invitations to you so you can get a better handle on what you want.

Good luck!  On both the STDs as well as the invites, we will have the wedding website listed.  I think that will be a huge help in keeping ppl informed as well as communicating info.  There's tons of threads on here about them, but here's the link to mine...
