Let teenage cousin bring a friend??? Help!

Hi Ladies,

I love my aunt to death and she's been very good to me.  However, I feel really awkward about a request she made:  Can her 17 year old daughter bring a friend to the wedding?   Usually I wouldn't care (and if I were 17 I'd want to bring a friend too!), but we have room for 150 guests maximum at our resort and we think that 130-150 are coming (100 have already booked rooms and flights and we haven't even sent out the invites).  Plus, we didn't even give our groomsmen a "plus one" if they were single!  Because they are family, this random girl would also have to be included at our intimate rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.  Do I dare say no, or suck it up and say yes?  What would you do?

How close are you to your aunt and your cousin?  Are you willing to say no and not have your aunt and cousin come along?

Honestly, I'd say yes and allow it.  The resort only has room for 150, but they wouldn't be booking an extra room, would they?  They'd still use the same amount of bed space and I would highly doubt they'd let someone else in their room.  So maybe if you say that as long as the three of them share a room, she can come?

I know this probably puts you in a tough spot, but honestly, I'd suck it up and let her bring the friend. Like you said, if you were 17 you'd want to bring a friend too. Outside of her bringing this friend, how many other teens her age are going to be there & is she going to have things to do with them? I think that if her friend is going to keep her preoccupied & help her to enjoy the week it would be nice for her to have her along.

Thanks for your response, Tlseege!

I know that my aunt, uncle and cousin will come regardless of if the friend comes or not; the friend would come solely to entertain the cousin.  The 150 is maximum capacity refers to both the ceremony and reception venue (the accommodation part is fine).  I'd love for everyone to bring whom they want, but we've already cut down our list so much!  I think my cousin is worried that she'll have no one to "hang out" with because it is an all adult event.

I think you are right!  I know it would make my aunt and uncle's trip easier!

Ah ha!  150 capacity for the wedding, not the resort.  Gotcha.  That still stinks, but hopefully you'll have 149 people come and her friend will make it 150 :)
