I'm doing my own wedding day makeup....

I went to MAC this weekend and had my makeup done and it looked great. I already use MAC so I was very familiar with their products. It was just nice to have someone else do my makeup. The great thing was that she helped me find a liquid foundation that would help with the humidity and highlighter that will help with highlighting my eyes. In the end I spent a little over $200 on new products but the way I look at it is I would of paid $90 on someone else doing it and this way I walked away with makeup I can always use!

More often than not, I have left make-up consultations feeling dissatisfied with the end reult.  I refuse to let this happen on my wedding day, which is why I will be doing my own make-up. I am no guru when it comes to make-up, I honestly hardly ever wear the stuff.  But I am greatful for posts like these that make me confident that I can achieve a flawless look on my wedding day, even if it takes multiple trial applications...good thing I have 13 months to practice!

Do NOT use mineral makeup for flash photography....it looks beautiful in person, but when the flash hits your face the light will bouce back into the camera and your face will have a "white cast"....This is because most mineral makeup contain titanium dioxide and other light-reflecting minerals.

On that note...try your best to avoid any foundation that contains a mineral sunscreen (titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide) as this will result in the same problems in flash photography.

Also be careful with your face moisturizers or any sunscreens you wear on your face with a high spf.  I know we all want to protect ourselves ESPECIALLY because were getting married in the tropical heat...but you dont want to sacrifice your photos either!

I highly recomend the makeup forever HD (for dry to normal skin) or makeup forever matte velvet foundations for photography....and

ALWAYS use a primer...primer for everything...face primer and eyelid primer!  Smashbox photofinish is a good choice for the face!  they have a small travel sized option (which is actually a good size) at sephora for like $10-15 if you dont plan on using it past your wedding day!

Too Faced or Urban Decay make great eye makeup primers.

I definatly reccomend buying your makeup at Sephora and testing out your makeup in different lighting and using flash at home.  Sephora has a great return policy if something doesnt work out for you.

Good luck and congrats!

It works wonders and smooths fine lines and pores. And it's very lightweight. I've tested out other primers (such as Smashbox Photofinish) and I think it's one of the best on my skin. Also, I used a finishing mist (Josie Maran Argan Primer Mist) which can also be used as a primer, and my make-up stayed on fresh for the entire night. I didn't have to touch up/refresh at all - except for lipstick of course. I personally favor the mist because it feels lighter than the other primers, especially since I had the Clarins base on already.

So if you're looking for some different alternatives, try those two. Word to the wise though: some Sephoras do not carry the Jose Maran Primer Mist. I checked three Sephoras before giving up and asking a friend in another state to get me some and bring to the wedding.

I am looking into lash tinting, for the days where were out in the water so I dont have to wear mascara.

Also I am looking in to semi permant eyelashes. I have looked into the eyelashes and it seams only a Dr. can apply them,i have no idea if this is right.

@Kristialilly i have light lashes and they are short too. I think I'll call my spa and see if they do it.

MAC helped me when some this weekend and they gave me some wonderful tips. She actually cut them to fit my eyes as well! I was going to buy another set and she said no need they last when you take them off if you take care of them! I am absolutely in love with them!

I thought about lash tinting as well, but am fearful about doing any chemical treatments near my eyes. I've never even heard of semi-permanent eyelashes. Let me know what your spa says. Barefoot sandals, semi-permanent eyelashes... this wedding has opened my eyes to so many things I didn't even know existed!

Thanks for sharing Stina! I'll have to make a plan to go to MAC and ask them about some of this stuff.

I have short lashes so I wanted to wear fake eyelashes. I bought this kit from Ulta (I think it was, although I have seen some at the drug stores) which contained the individual lashes rather than the whole strip. I used the "medium" length ones for the inner half of my eyes and used some "long" ones for the outer half. I have tried the whole strip lashes and personally I felt that these individual ones were much more natural-looking. The only problem is that I had a hard time doing it myself, so one of my good friends offered her help. She practiced on me a month or so before the wedding and then did it again the day of the wedding. They looked fabulous and non-porno like. :) They do fall out if you rub your eyes or wash your eye make-up off, but I just used some eye make-up remover and rinsed real carefully so that I could have them on the next day. They stayed on great but I pulled them all off by the end of the 2nd day because my eyelids began to itch from having something adhered to them for 48 hours.

Here's a picture of what the kit looks like:

There's a picture I posted of me getting ready where you can see for yourself what they looked like. They don't look super-long or fake but trust me they made a difference because I really don't have lashes like that. :D http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/77209/puccas-wedding-and-ttd-photos

Good luck and say YES to false lashes! :)

I have the secret to excellent skin!! I went to a party about a month before my wedding and tried this stuff and I loved it so much I had a party of my own so I could get the hostess rewards and I used it and in 2 days my crows feet were gone and I had bad acne marks on my face that disappeared in a week and I signed up to sell it to get their discount and I love this stuff so much! Its called arbonne....I kept asking people if they have ever heaard of it and I got maybe 1 yes to every 9 no's and I thought everybody should have this stuff...It is life changing....My friend battled skin cancer for years and the doctors kept prescribing all these medications n stuff and she was so sick of putting all that junk on her face so I told her to try some arbonne and she did and it has been 2 years since she has had to go back to the doctor!!! My face was totally and completely clear for my wedding!! They are botanically based, vegan certified, hypoallergenic swiss skin care! You kno, the stuff the rich and famous use!! Carrie Underwood doesnt use neutrogena...she uses swiss skincare but the only difference is that arbonne is totally affrodable!! Laprarie is swiss skincare that the rich and famous use and just a moisturizer from them is $800 and their 7 step system is $2800!!! Arbonne is no where near that price! If you would like to try these products just let me kno...When you order they ask for an ID number and if you would like more info or have questions or would like to order just let me kno and we will talk!! I promise you wont be sorry u did!

I did a makeup consultation at Sephora, and I'm really glad I did! As for the fee, they had me purchase a $50 gift card before the consultation started, so even if I hadn't bought anything, I still would have a gift card (but let's be real... I bought way more than $50).

I thought for sure I would end up with Make Up Forever, but it was terrible on my skin. It really is meant for oily skin, and I have some dry areas. I ended up with the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation (which is awesome!) and Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. Both are really hydrating, so they do not make me look dry and flaky, and they give me the coverage I need. I wore them for my engagement photo shoot, which lasted from 8AM-2PM, and they looked great all day!
