Honoring those that have passed away

Recommended Posts

We are remembering some of my family members too. My cousin passed away a few years ago. My grandmother passed this past January, my grandfather was right behind her and passed away in April. I have never had a relationship with my biological father so I've always been a grandpas girl, he was the dad in my life! He had a heart attack the day of my grandmother funeral. When he started getting better I told him we had set our wedding date and he would be walking me down the isle. He was SO excited that he had a nurse set up a countdown in his room that told him how many days he had to build up the strength to get back on his feet. He did great, but ultimately didn't make it. My mother will be walking me down the isle now. Anyway, enough of the sadness, my family members will be with us at both the ceremony and reception. I made my own bouqet and have included charms with thier photos on the handle. I will also be having their photos with a sign saying "We know you'd be here today if heaven wasn't so far away" sitting on our guestbook/gift table at the reception. Here's a photo of my bouquet...

We couldn't do candles because our reception was on the beach. Initially I wanted a plaque I saw on etsy that said "we know that you would be here today if heaven wasn't so far away". I planned on placing it on a pew in the church for my grandmother- who had a stroke and witnessed our proposal and shared that moment, but passed before we could get married. My grandfather passed when I was in HS but I always wanted him to walk me down the aisle. I didn't want to draw too much attention because the loss of my grandmother was still very raw and recent for my mom when we got married. Instead, I chose to have my grandparents wedding photo as my something old and has a custom peacock charm made for my brooch bouquet. I bot it on Etsy and the seller had a mock up in less than 30 minutes. The charm came to my house within a week. She was excellent. There are really great options for commemorating loved ones.

My mom actually got engaged to my stepfather a month after I became engaged. She waited for my wedding because its her second marriage and I am now planning her wedding. Since my grandmother is her "favorite girl" as she likes to say, I wanted to make sure I incorporated her in my moms day as well. I plan on buying her a bracelet like the one pictured here for her to wear:

These bracelets are actually quite expensive and I have seen these photo square beads in Michaels and I think for a fraction of the cost, I can actually make this myself. It's just a matter of shrinking my grandparents photo professionally and getting it into the frame. This might be my next DIY project.

Guess it wouldn't let me post because the picture was taken from the website and I don't have the right...lol It was there before I hit reply. But anyway- the seller is Klidonas photo jewelry on Etsy- if you look her up here you'll see what I mean lol

My fiance's dad passed away from terminal cancer.  To make a long story short, Fi was left here in the US to care for him while his mother and sister moved back to Taiwan.  He was only 10 years old.  I know how close they were and when we were talking about not having his physical presence at the wedding, FI broke down and cried.   I have racked my brain for ways to honor him in our ceremony. One of the things I am doing is something like this...   Found this on etsy and I think it is perfect for inside his lapel.  I am also having his dad's watch fixed (doesn't work) so he can wear it that day...       http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/image/id/261556/width/1000/height/500   http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/image/id/261554/width/1000/height/500

I love this! My FI lost both parents and a brother within 18 months and I know it weighs on him that they will be at the wedding in spirit only. Three empty chairs may be too much emotionally but I love, love, love this idea. I never had the chance to meet them, but I'm positive they are amazing people.

If the resort allows (have first phone meeting with them soon) we will light Chinese lanterns in their memory.

My mom passed away in 2010. I'm still trying to find the perfect way to honor her. I will be dancing with her best friend to a special song during the reception.
