Thanks so much for all of the great ideas!  Its hard because you want to remember them, but I also don't want to cause my husband-to-be any tears on the big day.

I like the idea of the table with a candle and a picture, and maybe saving him a seat, too.

Thanks again.  It has been extremely helpful!

Best wishes to everyone else on their big day!

Labebita, I lost my dad when I was young too.  It's truly the most difficult thing about getting married for me.  I like the idea of saving a seat for him and putting a flower on the chair, but I don't want everyone to be sad...it's supposed to be a "happy" day of course.  Let me know if you come up with any great ideas to honor your father.

I thought the same thing. As I get further into the process, I'm missing him more, and I'm also starting to really shy away from asking my step-dad to walk me down the aisle. I think I'll do it myself, but there's still plenty of time to decide.

Have you considered a brother if you have any or your favorite uncle?

I know there no replacement but you dont necessarily have to do it alone.

My father also passed away when I was younger and I'm going through some of the same things you other ladies have been speaking about.  My engagement and wedding planning have become very emotional.  Its hard to be happy sometimes when those that you love the most will not be around to be happy with you.  I will be asking my brother to walk me down the aisle.  I'm thinking of using the empty chair idea to represent him and all the other family and friends who have passed away.

I really dont know whose going to walk me down the isle to be honest. I will either walk alone or walk Halfway with my mom and then my Grandmother who raised me along with my mom and im truly a grandma;'s girl :o).. but def going to be emotional not having my dad but i know he's looking down on me and he is going to celebrate with me and will be there.. so its like WIlsonj2 said its suppose to be a happy time so only happy thoughts and memories on that day..

What i might do also is put the last pic we took together which was my 5th grade graduation and make it super small and place it inside a locket and carry it in my bouquet....

I'm an only child and not particularly close with any of my uncles (even though I have 14 of them, not even kidding LOL). But you know, I don't really feel like I'd be alone, I know he's there with me, and I think I want to keep that place for him, even though he can't be there in person. It's not that I have to, it's a choice I'm making. Its very sweet of you to suggest though - I don't want you to think I'm discounting your ideas at all!!!!

My fiance's dad passed away from terminal cancer.  To make a long story short, Fi was left here in the US to care for him while his mother and sister moved back to Taiwan.  He was only 10 years old.  I know how close they were and when we were talking about not having his physical presence at the wedding, FI broke down and cried.

I have racked my brain for ways to honor him in our ceremony. One of the things I am doing is something like this...

Found this on etsy and I think it is perfect for inside his lapel.  I am also having his dad's watch fixed (doesn't work) so he can wear it that day...
