Invitation Etiquette...Do I need to include an RSVP card and return envelope?

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

I hope you can help me with something...struggling with the decision of whether or not to include RSVP cards and return envelopes.  My mom says it is proper etiquette, but I don't think I need them!  I just wanted to include another pass (doing boarding pass invites) with my TA's info and "please book by..."  Guests don't really need to RSVP to me...I'll know they're coming when they book, right?  I really don't feel like I need to know early.  Please help me decide!  What did you do???

I did boarding pass invitations as well and did not include an RSVP.  I enclosed a card with the travel agents website and information so people could book.  My TA contacted me after anyone booked so I essentially got my RSVP that way.   I wouldn't waste the money on extra cards.  Good luck!

I did include them in mine, even though I had a travel agent with all the information a bunch of my guests booked through the hotel site directly or through other internet deals.  Which is totally fine if they get a better deal, etc. but by having the rsvp cards it helps you get a definite number of guests attending.  It was helpful to me in planning for out of town bags, how many things to buy etc.

Thanks for the advice!  I'm leaning towards not including them, just because I have instructed everyone to book through my TA and she will email me the information.  I hope they book through my TA anyway...hadn't really thought about them not doing that.

Rpingree, did all of your guests book through your TA?

You're not hijacking lol.  I am thinking of doing the same thing, but just having them RSVP by calling or emailing my TA to book.  I know it's proper etiquette to include the stamp, but in this day and age, and with a destination wedding, isn't it okay to do things a little differently?

We skipped RSVP cards. Our guests got hotel info on our wedsite and are booking their rooms. The hotel sends me their confirmations as they do and that serves as the RSVP. On our invite we say something like “please RSVP by reserving your room by…â€

I think you could totally get away from sending cards too.

All my guests booked through my TA with the exception of 2 couples and they were both in the wedding party so I knew when they booked.  All of my other guests were grateful to have the TA to work with who knew exactly what the program was and when they should get there and leave.  The reason those 2 couples did not book is because they have a timeshare with the hotel we are staying at so they just utilized their free weeks.

I did the boarding passes as well, and my 4th boarding pass was the RSVP.  I also included an envelop with a stamp...but I kind of wish I hadn't.  Only a few people actually used the stamped envelop.  Most people just emailed, called, or even sent me a message on FB.  One actually just booked with the TA and didn't even RSVP to us.  Luckily I had communicated with the TA and asked for the names of people who had already booked.

Personally, I would recommend doing things a little different!  You are doing the destination wedding, I think that gives you the okay!

Thanks everyone!  I have decided on my boarding pass invites and will post as soon as I get them.  I am doing two passes...one as the formal invitation and another with the booking info.  Lisa, I will use your idea of saying "please RSVP by booking by..."  Ella, you're right...I can absolutley do things a little differently since I'm doing the destination wedding.  Now I just have to convince my mom that she is being old school. lol

Yea!  Glad to have the settled.  Now on to the OOT bags.   It never ends, does it?!
