Anyone else feel like it's a rip-off...

Recommended Posts

I can see why it would be frustrating if you search this thread hoping to score a good deal... but its pretty much expected that people would try to break even on unused items.  Used items on the other hand... I agree that people need to accept that the item is no longer worth what they paid.

But I do disagree that almost everyone here is trying to break even or make a profit... most of the posts I've seen here are a pretty good deal!  There's the occasional post that is high, but the seller usually realizes they have overpriced and drops their price afterwards.

And yep, people should do their research before buying something anywhere - whether its on this forum or elsewhere online.  Its up to us to make sure we're getting the best deal we can  :)

that is a very very good point, E! this site does not exist primarily as a marketplace, so everything is buy at your own risk! it's not like ebay or other sites with buyer protection. there aren't even seller ratings to check out who you're buying from. please be smart and when you do purchase something from another bride, shop around first. and obviously never give personal financial info to anyone. use paypal.

IslandBride8,

I have to be honest and say that 1) I've purchased items from four brides on here, and to be honest- I really got great deals from all four! 2) I purchased my TTD from someone on the forum because I was truly tired of looking in the stores and online (so maybe I'd just gotten lazy). So once I saw that she wore the exact same size as me- and was selling it for much of nothing, I figured that it was meant to be.

There are really some people on here who are not trying to break even...and with that said, you may not always find a great bargain on this site either.

Regardless, if you feel someone is not being fair, do like you'd do in the store--and not purchase from them.

I agree with everyone on here.  I think when i originally wrote this i was in a pissy mood and it clearly came through in the thread... you guys are right that most everyone is willing to negotiate, so the prices may seem a little high at first.  sorry for the rant, while i do think some girls prices are crazy, most are in the right ball park and with some negotiating could be great steals!

thank you.

also, let's keep the forum a positive place...if you feel the need to vent go to the vent forum.  no one is forcing you to buy in this forum.

I think it's sad that you felt the need to retract your original opinion because a few brides disagreed and replied in typical bride fashion: overprotective and overreacting. I totally agree with you in that many, MANY of the items on here are overpriced, and think a lot of the items posted on here show a lack of class. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone try and sell their bridal lingerie if they could recoup the cost!

I find this post to be in poor taste.  It makes the wonderful people on here sound trashy and I really don't appreciate that.  As has been said many times, no one is asking you to buy anything on here.  If you have a problem with it, don't even bother going into that section of the forum.

I thought this issue was over and done with!

I am a bride who bought things from other brides many many times on this forum before my wedding.  In all cases, I thought I was getting a good price or I wouldn't have bought the items.  If I thought something was overpriced, I just didn't buy it.  I think most people on here do discount the prices from what they paid but even if they don't, its up to the buyer to decide if they want to pay that price or not.  If you can find something cheaper go buy it somewhere else.  For me, however, this buy and sell part of the forum was invaluable in planning my wedding and I am certainly planning to list my unused or reusable items for sale on here as well.  Let's face it weddings are extremely expensive and if brides can recoup some of their costs by selling items after the wedding, why shouldn't they.  Also, as a Canadian, I can say that often items are significantly more expensive here or stores sometimes won't even ship to Canada, so being able to buy things from other brides becomes all the more useful.  I think the buy/sell portion of this forum is extremely useful and I am very grateful for all the items I was able to purchase for my own wedding by using this site.

Everyone in this thread responded respectfully and tastefully, offering their personal opinions and experiences. There was no overreaction. Can we lock this now please?
