Moon Palace 2012 Brides

OK so I have experienced my first real disapproval's about our DW this week. We sent out our STD almost 2 weeks ago and people started getting them last week. The 2 people that have said something are my grandma and my aunt. They both said that because we were doing not only a DW but that we were having it on a Tuesday, that we obviously were making hard for certain people to go! I knew that I was going to have some people probably complain about the expenses and what not, but to say that we are trying to exclude people really upsets me! I'm hoping that this is the extent of the drama,  but I'm sure being only a month into it, it's just starting!

I have found that a handful of our potential guests have had the same reaction as you are experiencing.  Most people jump right to the conclusion that they can't afford it, or they can't take time from work, or they don't want to travel to another country, etc.  We set up a website, with all the info, and TONS of photos of the resort and how beautiful it is, and heavily urged everyone to visit the website and see for themselves before they make any decision.  I promise you, it has changed many peoples minds already.  Some of our guests are getting excited already (18 months before the wedding!!) and checking our website daily for updates.

There is a lot of discussion on these forums about DW's and how many guests will disapprove.  Most of the advice comes back around to the obvious...its your day.  You are never going to be able to make everyone happy.  The suggestion is you do what will make you happy, and hope that your guests will come around.

If there are concerns about costs for guests, there have been others here who have set up a clever section of thier website to compare the costs of going elsewhere for a wedding, (Las Vegas, NY, Orlando) and when you do the math, Palace Resorts is actually a GREAT deal.  When you break down the total costs, and figure out EVERYTHING that is included in your palace resorts stay, its actually becomes less expensive than other travel weddings.

I'm in the same boat right now, we just sent out our STD's this past weekend, and the first round we sent to our closest family members excluding FI's dad because he already told us he wouldn't be going so he got sent in the last batch.  We are getting married on a Tuesday as well, and the way I figure it, by getting married on a Tuesday it allows people to not have to spend a Saturday night if they don't want to.

I am however having the panic moments that no one will go, but I think I will feel that way until I know for sure that people have started booking, but I am not going to let them stress me out because I chose to have a DW to spend quality time with the people who choose to be there to celebrate with us, so that is all there is to it.

I had a bridesmaid drop out last week, even though I already got her dress and her silk flowers - she said she can't afford it. I feel that we are giving people A LONG time to save up money. PLUS it's a vacation for them as well. Try not to stress over people who say they can't come. Your true friends / people who care about you will be there!

I agree with MoonPalace2012,

One of my FI nieces said that she didn't have any money and that the IRS was taking her tax return.  Okay ummm really but she made it a point to attend All Star Weekend.  Although she didn't say that she wasn't going, I figured this was a warning.  But as FI and I stated "those that really want to see us on our day, will be there."  He said "as long as I am there, this is all that matters."  I have to side with my FI ;-)

I feel the same way having a panic moment thinking no one will go we have had our STDs for about 2 months now and im scared to send them out because i dont think im ready to hear peoples negative comments:( my bridesmaid have been great tho one even said she will get a part time job just to save money for the trip but as for my aunts and everyone else they are so negative most of the time about everything im scared to even tell then about it. My mom isnt beeing very supportive either she hasnt even botherd asking me how my wedding plans are going o well i guess i just gotta a pair and send them out.

krsmith - Sadly you will be disappointed by a lot of people throughout the whole wedding experience, no matter where it is held. I have heard so many complaints, and sadly the people that really should have tried harder to be there waited until the last minute to give some sad excuse for not going. There will however be people that surprise you by attending.

The important thing to remember is that, based on all the reviews and pictures, on your wedding day you will forget all the horrible things and have a beautiful day thanks to Palace Resorts.

krsmith, I take a bit of a different approach - I think its true, if my top priority for my wedding was to have everyone attend, I would have picked Toronto, but I didn't.  I also didn't go into this with any expectations at all about who would attend - so I am not disappointed when I hear someone can't make it, but am thrilled to bits when someone accepts.  After all, they are paying a LOT of money to be there, on a vacation they didn't choose (either location or timing wise).  What an honour to have them attend!
