Clarification needed for beach ceremonies!

Hi there,

I have tried searching on this forum and the internet for some information on beach wedding rules in Maui and I am just wanting some clarification. I know you can't have chairs on the beaches, is this correct? Is there a beach location with a grassy area that some chairs can be placed for elderly guests? Also, I know that you can't have an arch on the beach, are you still allowed to have some flowers on the beach (in a circle around the couple?). I've seen pictures of this and I think it looks amazing! Any input would be great because I am trying to decide on Maui versus other destinations where they do not have some of these rules. However, Maui is gorgeous!

Jen, Maui is a beautiful place to get married.  There are some regulations around the public beaches.   If you are getting married on the beach there are no chairs allowed, it becomes an issue of insurance.  You have to make sure the officiant or your wedding coordinator has a permit for the beaches also.

If you were looking for a grassy area by the beach, I would suggest maybe going for a condo rental in Lahaina where they have some private properties that back out onto the beach.  They are inexpensive and are really great for weddings where there are chairs.

Do you know how many people might be attending? This can also be a factor, as some place may only be able to hold 20 to 50 people. If you try condo restaurants they usually have grassy areas for ceremony's but back onto beaches. My FI and I are getting married at the Five palms in Kihei. The ceremony is on the restaurant lawn but the beach/ocean will be in the background.
