We did something similar - we sent out save the date magnets and on the bottom wrote "please visit our website at ...for details and to rsvp." We are still sending invites to everyone but are hoping this will encourage people to rsvp on the website first.

We didn't have our guests RSVP but once the cards went out we just talked with people...
