Cocktail Party after dinner?

Has anyone done a cocktail party after dinner?  We are only going to have about 20 people in our group, so we are not going to have a true reception.  We thought about having a cocktail party after dinner instead of after the ceremony.  I also would like to have a marachi band too.  Does this sound cheesy?  The band would play for 45 minutes, then would I switch to Ipod?  What do you think?  Even though we are not having a reception, I would like to get a "first dance" in somewhere.

The beauty about destination weddings is that anything goes.  I'm sure your guests would enjoy it and its a way to keep everyone together and celebrating after dinner.  My original plan was similar - have a nice dinner but then go to an on-site club to drink and dance.  but our guest list grew and we ultimately planned a full reception.
