Mexico Danger-wedding cancelation PLEASE HELP

Recommended Posts

Hahaha! I should have said something about the pirate hijackings!

This may be weird to say, but it's nice knowing there are other people going through the same thing as me. Not that I want anyone to be slighted or ridiculed but I started to feel crazy, or like maybe I was wrong and just convinced myself otherwise! Ugh! Just so frustrating! You can never make everyone happy. And we even contimplated on getting married at home first, that lasted 3 weeks of planning till I said FORGET IT! Once again, when we thought about a wedding at home, we had people (family) putting their two cents in. Regardless of what we do, we seem to be wrong, but we ARE doing what we want to do for our wedding! And damnit, we are getting married in Mexico!

My rule of thumb is "you treat others how you want to be treated" - The ball is in your court, you could royally mess her day up bad! Funny she doesn't even realize that! I understand you don't want tension between the brothers, I'm kinda in that position too, You could always wait till you are all at a family function and accidentally have one too many drinks and "accidentally" spill the beans!

You would think in reality she would try and be nicer to me knowing that I know that they are secretly married, not wanting me to tell anyone, but she's horrible. The only reason I dont is bc it would cause problems between my FI and his brother. And even with her fb post, she deleted it last night before my FiIs brother woke up for work (he works nights) that way he doesn't even know what she put on there, and she stays looking innocent.

You are putting your family and friends in harms way. Please move your wedding to a safe location where your family and friends don't have to be constantly looking over their shoulders.   Mexico is a dangerous country to travel to period! A shocking 32% of all non-natural deaths of U.S. citizenâ€s outside this country occur in Mexico. Many of these deaths happen inside of the resorts and are a direct result of poor or nonexistent safety standards. To read tragic Mexico vacation death stories, as well as stories written by victims that “survived†their Mexico vacation, go to:

It's really comforting and also really frustrating to see so many other people facing the same issues we are. We started with a small group to begin with (~25 guests), and now we're down to 13 (and may shrink some more). We originally were planning for a Key West wedding, then changed to Mexico when money became a major issue for us. Now, all the people who money was never an issue for can't seem to afford it (even though this trip is less expensive, and shorter travel time than Key West). Meanwhile, our friends with tighter money situations haven't balked at the price, and are just happy to support us. It's so disheartening to see family and close friends who are so jaded by the news make the decision not to see us get married. I know also that you can't change people, and nothing I can say would make them come at this point. I'm trying to focus on that fact that it's "our day" and that it's about the two of us, and the other folks are an added extra. However, to see my fiance upset about it too just sucks.

We spent the weekend with FI's brother, uncle and cousin. At one point, the topic of our wedding came up. The idiot uncle made some rediculous comment about how there's no way he's going because of how dangerous it is to travel to the Caribbean because of all the stuff going on in Mexico.

Um... I'm sorry.... what?!?!? It's a cruise to the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and Grand Turk. St. Thomas is dangerous because there are a few drug problems in Mexico?

1. We're not even going to Mexico.

2. We'll be on a boat most of the time, and only in these places for 8 hours each.

3. Mexico's not even that dangerous if you really look at the statistics compared to major US cities, you uneducated redneck.

Moronic comments laden with f-bombs flew out of his mouth all weekend, so I guess it was par for the course. He's never left the county though, so maybe he's just scared.

Hope all you wonderful ladies end up having your beautiful dream weddings!! I know I will, regardless of idiot comments.

Yes I would also like to add that we also went away from the hotel zone. Four our honeymoon my hubby and I rented a car and we drove our selves around the Mayan Rivera. We also went to the Cenotes (skin holes), many Mayan ruins, and visted a Mayan village. We even went on a four wheeling tour!   We we went to Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Coba, Xchicenitza with out any problems.  In Tulum we rented a love shak right on the beach! Look up Papaya Playa if your looking  for a ture romantic get away. Simple rustic little shacks right infornt of the ocean. =0)  We always felt 100% safe and never felt as if our life was in danger. Let morons be morons and you go and life end enjoy it to the MAX!

I must warn you the love shacks or "cabanas" are not for everyone. If youâ€re looking for the comforts of a 5 star hotel is place is not for you. Itâ€s a hippie beach filled with lots of eco friendly people and very simple but beautiful. You will see the most amazing views of the sun rising and setting. Sigh I would do anything to go back!  If your lucky you might see turtles nesting.   I suggest you buy candles as the lights go out after 10 or so.  We lit candles all in our cabin at night. Very romantic!!!
